The Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education in the Government of India has launched the “Guidelines for Registration and Regulation of Coaching Center 2024” with the objectives to establish a framework for the registration and regulation of coaching centers, recommend minimum standard requirements for their operation, protect the interests of enrolled students, encourage a focus on co-curricular activities for holistic development, and provide career guidance and psychological counseling for students’ mental well-being.
These guidelines are introduced to combat growing issues such as exorbitant fees, student stress leading to suicides, and various other malpractices, instances of which have been widely reported in the media and discussed in parliamentary debates and discussions.
The guidelines define a ‘coaching center’ as a center, established, run, or administered by any person to provide coaching for any study programme or competitive examinations to students at school, college, and university level, for more than 50 students.

These guidelines have also made registration of coaching centres a must and the due process must be completed within three months.
