Are you a student who only attends his/her college just for the sake of attendance? Is it a struggle to get out of bed each day?

Do you often find yourself contemplating whether or not your course is adding some value to your life?

If the answers to the above questions are yes, then you must be someone who absolutely despises his/her major and is stuck with the decision for three years.

Pushing yourself out of bed to take a class that you absolutely do not enjoy is a strenuous task. But that does not mean that we have to spend most of our college lives in the bed.

As someone who is a victim of her own academic major, I can assure you that even if your classes take a toll on your brain, productivity is not a mirage.  Here are some tips that can help you get through your day.

Get Some Perspective…

Understand that you chose your course because it felt right at that time. You chose it because back then it was the best decision.

I am sure your major has its own perks and a lot of students would love to trade places with you. It is easy to forget about the perks of one’s course during the daily grind, but gentle reminders are the way to go.

Accept your decision and start respecting it. Perhaps, get some perspective from a grade 12 student who aspires to do the same.

Join A College Society…

When your classes seem banal and intellectual stimulation is nowhere to be found, look for it in other places. Join a college society or a club, where you can actually connect with like-minded people and hustle together.

You can even start a society of your own. If you find yourself a place in college where you actually feel like you belong to it, trust me it is a lifesaver. A society will keep your brain working and also give you something to look forward to.

Also, the university offers attendance relaxation to society members as well. Eh, what better than that?

Do An Additional Course!

Platforms like Udemy, Udacity, Coursera offer various online courses that you can do at your own pace.

You can select the course of your choice from the pool offered and keep yourself intellectually satisfied.

A friend of mine managed an online graphic designing course with her business major and finally made a successful career in her area of interest.

You may take these courses online or offline depending on your schedule. This will up your skillset and your resume.

Start Something of Your Own…

Find your side hustle. Starting something of your own could provide you a purpose. College is the best time to take risks and make mistakes.

You may start your own vlog channel on YouTube. You can also take up freelancing and see what you enjoy.

You can also start a non-profit-based project to create an impact. So, take that leap of faith and invest time into your side hustle. You never know, what places it may take you.

Sneakily Do Something during Those Classes…

While this may not sound like a sane piece of advice, but I am sure you are capable of sneakily doing something during your classes.

If the teacher makes absolutely no sense, then journal during those classes. Use your class time, to plan out your week ahead.

You can also read an eBook during your lecture or play a game to keep sanity intact. (Not too much gaming though)

You may also download vocabulary flash cards or a language learning app to get yourself through classes.  I personally recommend the applications Magoosh and DuoLingo.

Another way is to randomly doodle, which will help you channel your energy.

So yeah folks, majors may suck sometimes but the key is to accept it as a part of life and give your best regardless. Do not think too much about the course not taken, instead focus on the good parts.
