Nuh, infamously known as the “cybercrime hub”, is back in headlines after nearly 50 Hindus participating in the Shobha Yatra were injured on being targetted by a radical mob of 800-900 rioters. As a result, neighbouring districts like Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurugram saw vigilance and security.
A Pre-Planned Incident?
A representative of the Nuh police said on Tuesday that their cyber squad had been monitoring posts ahead of the yatra and had been on high alert. However, screenshots making the rounds on social media reveal that the attacks on the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra were organised in advance.
Anil Vij, the home minister for Haryana, claimed on Tuesday that the conflicts were “pre-planned” and that large-scale violence is ineluctable without preparation. The spokesperson for the police, Krishan Kumar, stated that Facebook was being used to disseminate hate speech.

The authorities monitored all the hostile remarks and blocked such pages and posts. The administration, according to Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav, has been closely observing the social media activity. He also said that anyone spreading lies or making disparaging remarks about the community will face harsh punishment.
Cybercrime Hub In Nuh
It is important to remember that the Mewat region is notorious for atrocities and cybercrimes. Despite being fewer than 100 miles from the capital, Nuh is one of India’s most underdeveloped regions, according to Niti Aayog.
As a result of the area’s backwardness, lack of prospects, and high unemployment rates, cases of violence and cybercrime are increasing there.
In April, the Haryana Police made a discovery in the district that gave them a glimpse into the district’s expanding criminal activity: a cybercrime cell. A 102-person police squad conducted raids and detained 126 people, 65 of whom were arrested. Police seized 166 fake Aadhaar cards, 128 ATM cards, 99 Sim cards, and 66 mobile phones during the operations.
Attacks On Police Officials
It is important to remember that the Mewat region, especially Nuh, is infamous for atrocities and cybercrimes. Additionally, there have been cases where police officers were attacked while traveling to Nuh to carry out operations.
Radicals murdered Tauru DSP Surendra Singh in 2022 when he was looking into local illegal stone mining. Police assert that it is more challenging to identify young people involved in cybercrime in the area since it is carried out in a disorganized manner and they typically work in groups of two to three.
In the Mewat region, 5 lakh sim cards were being used to commit cyber frauds across the nation as of June 2023, according to the cybercrime cell.
The district police have launched a sweeping crackdown on 40 villages known as Jamtaras of Haryana as Nuh emerges as the NCR’s largest cybercrime hotspot. Nuh residents are known to be involved in phishing, Olx scams, honey traps, account hacking, social media hacking, online card cloning, digital locker hacking, and ID card tampering.
