The dispute over territories between China and India has been going on for a long time now, with the Chinese government often refusing to acknowledge those territories as part of India and the military bases in the areas getting into scuffles.

However, now according to reports China has come out with its latest map of its territory and it includes Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as part of its territory.

This has caused waves across the country at the audacity, although this is not the first time that China has claimed Arunachal Pradesh as its own or tried to alter border lines between the two countries.

What Is This New Map Of China?

China’s Ministry of Natural Resources released the map on Monday, 28t August 2023 at the Surveying and Mapping Publicity Day and the National Mapping Awareness Publicity Week celebration as stated by China Daily newspaper.

Chinese government’s official mouthpiece Global Times also posted the new map on Twitter (X) with the caption “The 2023 edition of China’s standard map was officially released on Monday and launched on the website of the standard map service hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources. This map is compiled based on the drawing method of national boundaries of China and various countries in the world.”

But what was appalling in it was the inclusion of the Aksai Chin region and the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh within its territory.

The map as per the tweet:

This shows exactly which regions China is reportedly claiming as its own:

Within the map, the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh is included in the region that China claims as South Tibet along with Aksai Chin which it occupied during the 1962 Indo-Sino war.

Not just this, but the map also claims Taiwan as part of its mainland and a large section of the South China Sea with the nine-dash line. But countries like Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan have always countered such claims and state themselves as sovereign regions.

This is not the first time China has done this as the Ministry of External Affairs in December of 2021 gave a statement on the country renaming 15 places in the states saying “We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has attempted such a renaming of places in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

China had also sought to assign such names in April 2017. Arunachal Pradesh has always been and will always be an integral part of India. Assigning invented names to places in Arunachal Pradesh does not alter this fact.”

Beijing also renamed around 11 Indian locations in April of this year including mountain peaks, rivers and residential areas.
