The board exam results are considered to be one of the most important ones for a student’s future life. Parents, teachers, officials, admins, and practically every single person is always laying emphasis on how important these results are.

A student is forced to work to their bone, putting in their blood, sweat and tears, berated and so much more to make sure they don’t insult their parent’s reputation in front of society and get the most top marks.

The ever-rising cut-offs in Delhi University only put more pressure on students to get marks of 99% or 100% itself, if they want to get admission into a decent college.

But it seems that there are always examples that prove how bogus all these claims are and that sometimes these board exam results don’t really matter at the end of the day.

IAS Officer’s Marksheet

Awanish Sharan, an IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre’s 2009 batch recently posted the 10th class marksheet of Tushar D Sumera on Twitter. Sumera is currently the district collector of Bharuch, Gujarat, and an IAS officer.

In his tweet Sharan wrote “Sharing his mark sheet, Bharuch Collector Tushar Sumera has said that he scored only passing marks in class 10 board exams. Out of 100, he got only 35 in English and 36 in Maths. Not only in the entire village but also at his school, he was told that he can’t do anything.”

Sumera cleared the UPSC exam in 2012 when he became an IAS officer. Before that he graduated in the Arts stream and was a school teacher for a brief period of time.

Although he wasn’t among the top rankers of the exam, he still cleared an exam that is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the entire country.

People can only hope to clear it in one go, many people keep retaking the exam for years before they actually pass through. That is how difficult the UPSC exam is supposed to be.

This certainly goes to show that board exam results are not the be-all end-all for a student’s career. Even getting barely passing marks, one can still reach success in the field they actually want to work hard in.
