A woman has taken social media by storm with her choice of clothes in the Delhi Metro, with photographs of her wearing a short dress called “Delhi Metro Girl” going viral and sparking a heated internet debate.

Here’s What Happened

Videos and photos of a woman wearing a bra and a miniskirt travelling the Delhi Metro have been making the rounds on the internet in recent days. Many individuals have questioned her wardrobe choices, while others have remarked that she is inspired by fashion influencer Uorfi Javed.

The woman in the video is sitting on the seat with a backpack on her lap. As she rises up, it is clear that she is wearing a bikini. A fellow traveller is said to have taken the video. While several chastised her for her attire, others argued that the person who photographed her invaded her privacy.

Delhi Metro’s Reaction

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials have now confirmed that the incident took place in the Delhi metro.

Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of DMRC said, ”DMRC expects its commuters to follow all social etiquette and protocols which are acceptable in the society. Commuters should not indulge in any activity or wear any attire which could offend the sensibilities of other fellow passengers.”

He added, “DMRC’s Operations & Maintenance Act lists indecency as a punishable offense under Section 59. We appeal to all our passengers to kindly maintain decorum while traveling in a public transport system like the Metro. However, issues such as the choice of clothing while traveling is a personal issue and passengers are expected to self-regulate their conduct responsibly.”

This Is What Netizens Had To Say

A user wrote, “It’s Democracy ! Right of freedom !!” Another said, “What is it? Some shooting going on? How can someone dress up like this in a public place?” Meanwhile, another user called her a “Tarzan girl”.

Comments such as “Clear case for Section 294A IPC. How the hell @CISFHQrs allowed her to go in the metro??!!”, “Poor girl. No money to buy clothes,”  “The lady sitting next to her seems uncomfortable. How can a man feel then…!,” filled the comment section of the post.

As of now, no action has been taken against the girl, and the only statement has come from the Delhi Metro. The woman in the video has yet to be identified.
