If you’re looking for an economical phone, Xiaomi has come to your service yet again. Xiaomi, a much appreciated and widely popular brand since the past year has launched Redmi Y Series today.

Mi Y1 and Mi Y1 Lite are the newest models which were showcased at the launch event earlier in the day.

This series is basically targeted at the selfie-obsessed buyers, starting at the price of Rs. 8,999 with 3GB RAM and 32 GB storage. Although, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model will cost around 11k.

Lite is a simple budget model with a 5MP front camera. Both the models will be soon available on Amazon as well as the Mi site.

Xiaomi has also announced the much talked about MIUI 9 for its smartphones in the same launch event today.

Features of Mi Y1

The model fulfills the camera quality requirement of the buyers. It has a front LED flash (selfie light) and 16 MP Camera with an aperture of f/2.0. The display is HD, a good 5.5 inch with corning gorilla glass to protect the screen.

The rear camera is 13 MP with a PDAF. The Mi Y1 Model obviously has a rear fingerprint sensor like all other Mi phones. MIUI is available on the phone.

Other technical specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, 3 or 4 GB of RAM and expandable 32 or 64 GB of storage along with a micro SD card slot which was missing in the previous models of Mi. This new model also has an alloy frame to manage heat better.

Features of Mi Y1 Lite

Just like Redmi Y1, Lite also has a 5.5 inch HD display. But since this particular model is a budget phone, it has lesser storage. It is only available in 2 GB RAM with 16 GB storage.

The front camera is 5 MP and the rear camera is of 13 MP. Battery backup is a good 3080 mah. This model also supports a micro SD card for external storage.

Price: 7k

Features of the new MIUI 9

Xiaomi claims that MIUI 9 is much faster than MIUI 8. The best feature is that of notifications and split screen, both features have reduced the number of steps to get something done via the smartphone.

Redmi Y Series

The display has changed with animated icons and the smart editing tool. It will also have built-in App Vault. Also, Mi Drop has now been developed into an App.

Sites like IRCTC have tied up with Mi to have a special SMS feature. Panchang has collaborated with Mi to display holidays, festivals etc. in the Calendar.

MIUI 9 in India is available for Mi Note 4 and a few other select Mi smartphones from tomorrow while the beta version would be made available to all Mi cellphone models.
