Taylor Swift got married. Which, according to the fans at least, should at the very least have been turned into a national holiday, or some global acknowledgement of how momentous this occasion was.
Now, while I’m not going to disparage any fan for just being happy in the happiness of their fav, it seems that some have taken it a step too far by literally buying trash collected from Swift’s wedding.
A person, at least that is what is known so far, practically roamed around the venue in New York City, United States, picking up random trash like cigarette butts, fabric scraps, soda can tabs, and even a stray AirPod. Packed them into small cubes and put them up for sale.
Now, any sane person would think, why would anyone buy literal trash?
But this was not just any common trash. Because apparently, there is an elite hierarchy even to trash now, and this particular garbage certainly belongs at the top, given it was collected near the wedding venue of Taylor Swift. Of course, the garbage was not only bought, but also sold out in no time.
Taylor Swift’s Wedding Trash Up For Sale
American popstar Taylor Swift, 36, and NFL star Travis Kelce, 36, got married on July 3, 2026, at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City, United States. The wedding is among the most secretive ones held, while happening at one of the most iconic and well-known locations in the entire country. The choice of venue, though, seems to have been carefully selected for security and containment; MSG’s enclosed infrastructure made it possible to enforce the no-phone policy.
The venue also allowed the organisers to restrict access to who enters and seat approximately 1,000 guests in conditions that gave everyone the feeling of a stadium show while keeping the entire event completely off the internet for the duration. The pair, who’d been dating since September 2023, got engaged in August 2025. Taylor’s ring went viral as well, with most entertainment and fashion magazines and tabloids unable to talk about anything else but it.
The wedding was attended by the whos who of America, including a performance by Stevie Nicks, Steven Spielberg, Tom Brady, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Selena Gomez, Hugh Grant, Chris Rock, Ed Sheeran, Ethan Hawke, Gwen Stefani, Benson Boone, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Lopez, Jimmy Fallon, Joe Buck, Andy Reid, and Roger Goodell, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Karlie Kloss, Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner, Dakota Johnson, Zoë Kravitz, the Haim sisters, and Lena Dunham.
While the inside boasted of money and luxury flowing like a river, the outside had large crowds of fans pressed up against police barricades, straining for a glimpse of anyone in black tie.
It might also have been here that a person was hit by the entrepreneurial spirit and decided to make some good money out of this craze.
Justin Gignac, a New York-based artist who has spent years running a project called New York City Garbage, decided to sell trash collected from outside the venue on his site. Gignac’s project has him packaging and selling street litter as collectable art objects. According to reports, dressed in a tuxedo, Gignac roamed around the MSG on the evening of July 3, litter picker in hand, and collected whatever the wedding crowd had left behind on the Manhattan pavement.
His website described the items as being collected “from the edge of a love story outside Madison Square Garden as close to Taylor and Travis’ big day as you could’ve gotten without an invite.”
The product drop was marketed as “the debut of Pocket Garbage, so you can carry a piece of the greatest day of your… I mean, their lives, wherever you go.”
The garbage was collected, placed inside small clear plastic cubes and priced for $25. On the cubes, “New York City Garbage” was printed along with “JusT&T Married” along with the date.
Every single one sold out.
According to Gignac, as many as 1300 cubes have been sold so far, from fans across 30 different countries.
He also made a large size, which was priced at $100. Justin reportedly said, “I went around the perimeter. I found a Ring Pop. I found that left AirPod, and I also found an ovulation test kit,” adding, “I made 50. I call it ‘Pocket Garbage,’ $25 each. The bigger cubes are $100 for regular garbage.”

Justin was not the only one using the opportunity presented, as an unidentified seller on eBay was selling a clear plastic bag titled “Bag of Air From Taylor And Travis Kelce Wedding” for a whopping $49,999.99.
The seller’s description reads, “This isn’t just a bag. It’s history you can breathe. Frame it, and display it proudly next to your Eras Tour merch and signed footballs. Or gift it to that one friend who still believes in fairy tales.” The listing further added that the air was “Captured during the emotional ‘I Do’s’ in Section 118 Madison Square Garden. 100% Guaranteed Authentic.*
The listing does ironically, then add a note that “We are not actually responsible for proving this.”
It provided a list of what is included in the sale, writing, “One (1) standard sandwich baggie containing ambient NYC air from the momentous occasion. • Minimal, clear Ziploc sandwich bag containing only ambient NYC air from the momentous occasion. • Eternal bragging rights over your Swiftie/Chiefs Kingdom friends.”
It further wrote, “Perfect for the collector who has ‘literally’ everything. Why buy a signed guitar when you can inhale the same oxygen as Travis and Taylor?”
Although a disclaimer was placed, stating, “Item is literally a bag of air. The seller makes no legal guarantee of the air’s origin, emotional value, or mystical properties. The bag has been opened and resealed for authenticity verification (by me). All sales final.”
It is unclear if this was a genuine sale or a satirical experiment carried out by someone who wanted to see how much people could be fooled into buying any random nonsense, because the listing was taken down quickly, since it violated the platform’s standard listing policies.
The listing also drew hundreds of views, about 200 within just a very short period of time.
Some also believe the listing was actually a kind of performance art about the nature of celebrity fandom more than it was a genuine commercial transaction.
There were also other official memorabilia from the wedding that guests were permitted to take home that have found their way onto platforms like eBay and Depop. Items like custom matchboxes, monogrammed napkins, and personalised favours from the reception have been listed on these websites with prices ranging from $50 to several hundred dollars, depending on condition and the apparent credibility of the seller.
