The tensions between Iran and the US and Israel spilt over into the Middle East as well, with Iranian forces carrying out retaliatory attacks across various regions, including strategic sites in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
This was done after the US and Israel attacked Iran with coordinated military strikes, leading to the death of various officials, including the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran, in response to this, attacked the US military bases in several regions using ballistic missiles and drone assaults.
The attack occurred amid heightened regional hostilities, as Iran sought to target US assets across the Middle East. UAE air defence systems responded rapidly, intercepting incoming threats and preventing widespread damage.
Authorities confirmed that while debris fell in limited areas, there were no major civilian casualties reported. The incident also briefly disrupted air traffic, with some passengers stranded in Dubai and Abu Dhabi due to precautionary airspace closures.
Amid all this, though, residents in the UAE have voiced strong appreciation for Dubai’s leadership and crisis management.
UAE President And Crown Prince Mall Walk
The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, were seen walking around in the Dubai Mall on March 2, 2026.
Clips of the leaders calmly walking through the mall soon started going viral, with the visit sending a message of confidence and reassurance to the residents.
UAE newspaper, The National, commenting on this said, “The leaders’ public appearance demonstrated confidence in the country’s security and stability at a time of heightened tensions in the region.”

The two leaders shared a meal at one of the mall’s restaurants and interacted with the public during this time of crisis.
A social media user wrote, “UAE’s president showing up in public at Dubai mall sends a message. Clearly, they’re not letting the Iranian attack disrupt business as usual. Normalcy is a powerful signal in times of tension.”
Another commented, “Seeing President Mohammed bin Zayed walking publicly at Dubai Mall shows just how secure Dubai remains despite regional tensions. Life goes on, and the city continues to prioritise safety and stability for residents and visitors alike.”

What Are Expats Saying?
Dubai is also home to a large number of expats. Business magazine, Arabian Business, spoke to some of them to understand the ground-level situation.
Resident Pearl John, 32, said, “What reassures me most is how proactive and transparent the government is. We’re always kept well informed, which makes such a difference in uncertain times. There’s a real sense of safety here. You genuinely feel that Dubai will do everything in its power to protect its residents.”
She added, “It gives me peace of mind knowing that, if anything were to happen, we would be informed immediately and clearly guided on what steps to take. That level of communication builds a lot of trust.”
Tunisian professional, Iman, 32, was also quoted saying, “The UAE has always demonstrated strong leadership, clear communication and an ability to act quickly and decisively when needed. There’s a visible sense of preparedness, whether that’s through infrastructure, defence systems or the efficiency of government platforms.”
Carmen Constance, 27, who hails from Norway and has been living in Dubai for two years now, said, “The amount of interceptions made by the UAE is really reassuring. We have a great defence system here, and that helps me relax.”
Tourists Share Experience
For tourists stranded in Dubai, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced that the UAE will cover their accommodation and meal expenses. Along with this, temporary hotel stays and meals were also arranged for passengers till airspace was cleared.
Reports quoted an Indian influencer, speaking to Khaleej Times, saying, “We came to the UAE last week and were supposed to travel back to Bangalore on Saturday. At the airport, we learned that all flights had been cancelled. There were sirens, and we received an alert on our phones to find shelter. A few hours later, they gave us free food and hotel vouchers.”
He added, “We were looked after very well, and the staff were very supportive. As the airspace has not opened, our flight voucher was extended for a day for free. I loved how the UAE authorities were so considerate towards travellers. It is the most supportive country I have been in.”
Dubai resident Tushar Gagerna, who was flying to Delhi that particular day, also told Khaleej Times that “a dedicated waiting area was set up for all affected passengers” and “Emergency visas were being issued on the spot for tourists. Think about that for a second. In the middle of a geopolitical crisis, with airspace shutting down and flights grounded, the UAE was actively ensuring that visitors who had no plan to stay, no hotel booked, and were just passing through were legally covered, safe, and documented. Not chaos. Not bureaucracy. Instant humanity.”
Instagram user @zayyanamani posted a video on February 28, 2026, about the situation there.

In his post, he wrote, “To everyone with family abroad calling, messaging, and worrying about us in the UAE and Dubai, we understand. Seeing headlines and videos of debris can be frightening. But please know this. The UAE has advanced, layered defence systems designed specifically to intercept threats before they reach populated areas. Situations like this are monitored in real time, and preventative measures are already in place long before anything becomes a wider risk.
The government here prioritizes safety above everything. Security coordination, air defence technology, and emergency response systems are highly organized and constantly active. Life continues normally. Infrastructure is functioning. Authorities are alert and proactive. Your concern means everything, but we are safe, protected, and in good hands.”
