Why Is The Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Targeting Kapil Sharma?

-

The news of the comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, Canada, Kap’s Café, facing its third attack in the last four months, has raised a lot of questions.

Members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have claimed responsibility for at least the most recent such incident. But this has only had people asking the question: why is a comedy actor being singled out and his cafe being attacked? What motive could lie behind these violent gestures?

What Happened At Kapil Sharma’s Café?

On October 16, 2025, shots were fired at Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada, called Kap’s Cafe. The eatery is co-owned by Kapil Sharma and his wife, Ginni Chatrath, and is located in Surrey, British Columbia.

Local outlet News Derby reported that three shots were fired at the cafe, while the Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers revealed that they received information of the shots fired at around 4:30 am.

However, this is not an isolated incident; this is the third attack at the cafe over a span of just a few months in 2025. Fortunately, according to reports, no one was physically harmed in any of these incidents, but property damage and security fears are real.

The first shooting, on July 10 2025, that occurred just a few days after the café was launched, involved multiple rounds being fired into the café late at night. Windows and walls bore bullet damage.

The second attack happened around 7 August 2025, and similarly involved gunfire directed at the premises, with once again, glass shattered but no injuries. Now this recent one, where viral videos have shown shooters being reportedly unmasked and aggressively firing multiple rounds at the site.

The cafe’s team in an Instagram post stated, “We’re processing this shock, but we’re not giving up. Violence won’t silence our spirit or our community.”

Is Kapil Sharma Being Targeted Specifically?

The responsibility of the attack was taken by gangsters Goldy Dhillon and Kulvir Sidhu (known as Nepali), members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

In an alleged social media post made by Kulvir Sidhu in Punjabi, he wrote, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Today’s firing at Caps Cafe, Surrey, was carried out by me, Kulveer Sidhu, and Goldy Dhillon.

We hold no grudge against the general public. Those who owe us or cheat us will be warned. Bollywood individuals who speak against our religion should also be prepared, bullets can come from anywhere.”

Some reports question the authenticity of this post, though.

In another social media post, an X/Twitter user shared a screenshot of a post made by Goldy Dhillon. In the screenshot, Dhillon seems to be claiming responsibility for the shooting, writing that “I, Goldy Dhillon, and Lawrence Bishnoi gang take responsibility for the firing that happened in Surrey.”

The post also claimed that “We called him, but he did not answer the call.. If he still does not respond, we will take further action in Mumbai soon…”

The responsibility for the first shooting in July was taken by the Laddi gang, associated with the banned Khalistani terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), as per a Firstpost report.

Now, it has not been confirmed by any official source as to why Kapil Sharma is being targeted by them; however, one assumption is that it is due to the comedian inviting Bollywood actor Salman Khan for the inauguration of his cafe.

According to an India Today report, they acquired an audio clip of Hari, aka Harry Boxer, a Bishnoi affiliate, where he claims that inviting Salman Khan to his Netflix show’s inauguration was provocative, and warned that anyone working with Salman (actors, directors) would be targeted.

As per the report, he allegedly said, “The first and now the second firing at Kapil Sharma’s restaurant happened because he had invited Salman Khan to the inauguration on a Netflix show.”

Some reports have claimed that the Delhi police potentially believes some of the attacks are meant to “create fear in India — with extortion as the primary motive.”

According to an August report by The Indian Express, a senior officer told them that “beyond the stated reason for the shooting at Sharma’s café in Surrey, the gangs aimed to send a message to the film industry and local businesses. That’s why they recorded and publicised the incident, he said.”

The Laddi group of BKI claimed that their attack was due to a character on The Kapil Sharma Show making some “humorous” remarks on Nihangs Sikhs.

They said that they’d even tried to contact Sharm through his manager, but when they did not get any response, they carried out the attack. Their post also demanded a public apology from Sharma.
