Last week, Rohit Sharma went on to become the only cricketer to have scored two double hundreds in One Day Internationals and he also attained the highest individual score of 264 in the same format of the game. Just like that, he has made his way into the record books once again!

Rohit Gurunath Sharma, born 1987, Nagpur, is an Indian International cricketer. He is an aggressive batsmen and a spin bowler and plays domestic cricket for Mumbai.

On 13th November, he smashed 264 runs (33 fours, 9 sixes) from 173 balls in India’s encounter vs Sri Lanka. Coincidently, the Men In Blue became the only team to put up a total of 400 (404/5) plus for the fifth time in ODIs.

He achieved the amazing feat of being the only batsman in the 250+ club, scoring 264, surpassing Virender Sehwag’s 219 to now become the proud holder of the highest individual score in ODIs. He is also the only cricketer to have scored two double hundreds in the history of the game! Till not many years back, nobody had scored a double hounded, and this man here has done it not once, but twice.

Credit for this record breaking innings must also go the Sri Lankan fielders, without whose courtesy, this would not have been possible. Rohit Sharma was dropped at 4, yes a mere four runs.

After this, there was obviously no stopping him. But what no one could have imagined was that he would go on to make a mammoth 260 more runs. He whacked the ball left right center, leaving no part of the ground untouched and showing no mercy to any bowler.

He reached his double hundred in style, playing a classy shot for four when he was at 197. He was dropped again at 201, and believe it or not, another opportunity was missed when he was at a score of double nelson (222).

A comedy of errors, or whatever you would like to call the poor fielding display and lack of holding onto sitters, in situations where even half opportunities should have been converted, cost the Lankans the match. In fact, Sri Lanka lost to Rohit Sharma by 13 runs!

As he walked back to the pavilion after being dismissed at 264 on the very last ball of the innings, he knew that he had created history and made his country proud. What a performance: complete with a multitudinous display of shots and perfect stroking of the bat.

Rohit Gurunath Sharma, keep that bat raised and take a bow!
