6 Times Internet ‘Killed’ Living Celebrities For Money

-

Death hoaxes are nothing new. We often hear about the death of some or the other celebrity which turns out be entirely fabricated.

The worst of these are the dreaded spams. One click to read about a supposed death and you end up sharing it without your knowledge.

All the sites using this false news as click-bait deserve to be shut down. Do you really need to ‘kill’ a celebrity to make money? I don’t believe so.

Also, think about how avid fans would react when they suddenly read about the death of their idol. Nobody should go through that, even if for a brief time period until they get to know otherwise.

This obviously isn’t the first time people have stooped so low, let’s take a look at some of the other hoaxes in recent years which were absolutely bizarre:

1Jaden Smith: July 2016

hoax

The most recent addition to the ‘celebrity death hoax club’ is Jaden Smith. Various threads surfaced on the internet in July 2016 claiming that he had committed suicide.

2. Will Smith: November 2011

Looks like those who spread these rumours have a special liking for the Smith family. Will Smith was a victim before his son when reports came out that he died after falling from 60 feet. Another rumour claimed that he died in a car crash. Nice try guys, Deadshot won’t go down that easy.

3. Miley Cyrus: 2009

Let’s face it, there are more than a few people who would actually throw a party if she died. Some tweet claiming her death went viral for a grand total of 10 minutes! She was performing at a concert at the same exact time so if she actually was dead it would have been quite disturbing.

4. Charlie Sheen: 2010 and 2011

The internet went crazy when news came out that Charlie Sheen had passed away in a snowboarding accident. And, strangely enough, he was a victim of the EXACT same hoax the following year. What is wrong with the sources? At least show a little variety.

5. Lindsay Lohan: July 2010

Her Wikipedia page stated ‘drug overdose’ as the cause of her death. Which, let’s be honest, isn’t hard to believe considering her ‘innocent’ lifestyle. But she’s quite alive and even out of rehab for a change.

6. Rowan Atkinson: Most recently July 2016 but basically every year.

Even the beloved Mr. Bean isn’t spared. Conversely, he’s actually a victim of the death hoaxes on a regular basis. Most recently, rumours of his death went viral on Facebook and a page named ‘RIP Rowan Atkinson’ immediately got 1 million likes. Talk about being taken for a ride.

The hoaxes are only increasing and people still manage to get fooled. One lesson that everybody should imbibe from this is to not believe everything you read on the internet.
