Sacred Games has given us a show which is thematically brilliant and boasts of some exceptional performances by its cast.
It’s surprising that more often than not, we find ourselves appreciating the supporting cast more than we appreciate the lead characters in the show.
Mind you, I’m not talking about Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He is the heart and soul of Sacred Games and drives the show like a charged racehorse but I’m rather going to discuss his talented yet not-so-talented-as-him supporting actors such as Radhika Apte and more prominently, Saif Ali Khan.
Radhika Apte was less than dazzling in her role of a data analyst for RAW who shows undertones of her affinity to feminism in the most awkward situations possible (we’ll talk about it in the latter half of the article) but it is Saif Ali Khan who ends up trying too hard to play his role with gusto and understated charisma.
His cuss words seem forced, his acting seems forced, his character development seems forced and his will to commit himself to embody a non-glamorous role seems non-existent.
Mind you again, there are some gems in the show as well and we’re going to focus the spotlight on them.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at the top 5 characters from Sacred Games who out-performed Saif Ali Khan in the show:
As I previously mentioned about Radhika Apte, her role, although significant gets somewhat cringe-worthy in the episode where her inner feminist regards Saif as a sexist because as a policeman, he was just trying to do what’s right by saving his informer and she thinks he’s just being a hero because the informer is a girl and all men think that women can’t do a field agent’s job.
Yeah. So.. that.
But hey, there’s plenty to watch out for in the show such as Nawaz in his acting prime and you’re going to love every hour of it. Sacred Games is definitely one of the best Indian shows out there and the makers deserve all the appreciation for it.
