Why Has ED Summoned Ranbir Kapoor?

At least 12 additional actors from the Bollywood and Tollywood industries, along with 100 influencers, have come under the scrutiny of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). They are likely to receive summons as part of the investigation.

Several of these actors had attended and performed at the wedding of Sourabh Chandrakar, co-owner of the Mahadev app, in February of this year, as well as at the company’s success celebration in September of the previous year.

It is alleged that the funds from illegal betting were used to compensate them. Kapoor is believed to be among the highest-earning celebrities who received payments from the app’s promoters, Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. In addition to appearing in advertisements, the actor also endorsed the app on various social media platforms.

About The Mahadev App

The Mahadev application facilitated unlawful betting on a wide range of online activities such as poker, card games, games of chance, badminton, tennis, football, and cricket.

Reportedly, the app is managed by Saurabh and Ravi Uppal, who are residents of Dubai. The reason for operating the company from Dubai is that betting is permissible there, whereas it is against the law in India. Their primary clientele is located in India.

What Is The Mahadev Betting Scam?

Those responsible for managing the Mahadev app are referred to as “panel owners.” They oversee multiple private groups on instant messaging platforms and run around four to five similar platforms, generating a daily profit of Rs. 200 crore.

These individuals promote the Mahadev Book contact number on websites to entice people into playing games for profit and handle money collection, user ID creation, distribution of credentials, and payout distribution.

Players are required to deposit money into anonymous accounts, which are then shared online. Afterward, they are allocated panels by the central office located in Dubai.

Payouts are also made from these deceitfully opened anonymous accounts. It has been reported that all the games are manipulated to ensure that panel owners don’t incur losses.

While users may initially make profits, they are likely to suffer substantial losses in the long term. The app began its operations in 2017 and experienced a surge in users in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only Ranbir Kapoor, but several other Bollywood and Tollywood celebrities, and influencers are being investigated for their involvement in the Mahadev online betting case.
