Akshay Kumar has been under fire recently for choosing to appear in an ad for Vimal Elaichi.

As soon as the ad appeared online, people took to social media to comment on how this went against many of the things that the Bollywood actor promoted like healthy living, fit lifestyle, and more. People commented on how this is clearly surrogate advertising by the gutka brand that created tobacco products and more.

On 21st April 2022, Akshay Kumar posted an apology on his Twitter stating he was sorry about his appearance in the ad and that he would be donating all the money earned from that endorsement to a worthy cause.

Twitter

In his tweet, he wrote, “I’m sorry. I would like to apologise to you, all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi.

With all humility, I step back. I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return, I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes.”

Obviously, this did not go down well with many people, who actually started to bring up Kumar’s old ad for Red & White cigarette brand back in the day. Calling his apology hypocritical, people commented on how the actor was not being entirely truthful in his post.

This was probably not the best course of action for Akshay Kumar to take, since it only seemed to have made things worse and brought more trolling his way.
