If objectification of a woman is called out, you are branded as a feminazi who has nothing better but to crib about everything and anything.

But objectify a man, even as a parody, and suddenly everyone is exclaiming of how wrong this is, and how this is not the right way to propagate feminism etc.

This ad campaign by Suistudio for their fall collection, of suits for women, has garnered mass engagement almost going viral for featuring naked but faceless men in the images.

The images show the women in powerful suits with the men naked and placed in strategic positions that show the authority of the women over them.

This has incited a lot of negative response from people, who do not think that objectifying men in such a way is right, even if on the other hand, females have been objectified in this exact manner for decades and more.

Here we take a look at how that has been so. We have placed Suistudio’s campaign’s pictures objectifying men alongside other ad campaigns objectifying women forever now!

men were objectified

A user (female) on Instagram commented that  “If it was the other way around with the woman on the couch and man above her, feminist groups would jump and criticise. This double standard needs to end.”

This is an advertisement for a jewellery brand for men. Not sexism in the least.

Danny Bowman, a mental health campaigner, commented this campaign saying that “Any hashtags like this can send a negative message to society as a whole that objectifying individuals is ok, it’s not.”

Of course when it is the other way around, then no one thinks to talk of ‘mental health’ and how women objectification can lead to severe confidence and personality issues.

Another Instagram user said that “Sexism is sexism, no matter if a woman dominates a man or vice versa. And revenge is not a way to overcome injustice.”

But then how should we stop such advertisements from being made?

men were objectified

Some could say that this objectification of men is not right and this is not the right way to show feminism.

But to them, I would just want to remind how women have been depicted as such for decades and decades and even still are portrayed as such. Is that right?

Another Facebook commenter also said that ‘men are not made uncomfortable by all this and that it just sheds a bad light on feminism’. Well, this is not about being uncomfortable, but about how women are dehumanised and objectified to show the power of a man.

What message are such big fashion companies sending out when they show such depictions of women in their campaigns? Is that fair? This one above shows rape as fashionable!

  1. For the last picture showing rape as fashionable i just eant to say that dolce & gabbana publisjed this picture along with another depicting a man in the same scenario.
I think we have to decide either we objectify both males and females alike or we don’t objectify either one.
Both would be perfectly fine by me. I believe the problem is the inequality in all this.
Why not objectify men? It looks good it, it works as publicity, it makes it so that there is more equality between genders.

  2. I think men quite like the idea of being objectified and naked infront of a strong woman wearing a suit and her hand with a strong grip on his butt, i am sure woman and girls would enjoy more young naked male in there presence.
