The Top 5 Deadline Transfers In The Premier League

-

Will Barca pull off a coup by buying Coutinho on the last day? Who knows Perisic might be donning a different coloured jersey come the month of September? One may see Sanchez playing at the Etihad week in week out.

Deadline transfers are a treat to every football maniac. While we hope that the upcoming deadline day brings in surprises for us, let us look at some of the biggest deadline transfers in the history of PL

  1. Luis Suarez – Ajax to Liverpool, £22.8million (2011)

The then Liverpool coach, Kenny Dalglish splashed his cash from the transfer of Fernando Torres cash on Andy Carroll and Suarez, and while the Carroll turned out to be an average player, Suarez’s talent more than made up for it.

While controversy and the ‘biting’ Uruguayan were close in hand, in three-and-a-half years, he scored 82 goals in 133 games, won the 2013-14 PFA and FWA Footballer of the Year awards, twice figured in the PFA team of the year and almost won the PL for the Scousers.

  1. Wayne Rooney – Everton to Man United, £27million (2004)

He entered United as a good talent but left United as a legend.

He is United leading goal scorer, England’s top scorer, won five Premier League titles, one Champions League, and countless other trophies.

The best bargain of the PL history.

  1. Dimitar Berbatov – Tottenham to Man United, £32million (2008)

The transfer saga of 2008 ended with Dimitar Berbatov packing his bags to Man United from Spurs.

It is well known that Manchester City tried to scupper the striker’s move to the Theatre of Dreams by making a last minute bid to sign the striker just hours after the club was bought by Sheikh Mansour. It however failed.

He spent four seasons at Old Trafford, scoring 56 goals in 149 matches.

  1. Mesut Ozil – Real Madrid to Arsenal, £42.5million (2013)

He was expected to light up the PL a lot more than he has done. But nonetheless, he is torch bearer of Arsenal.  In spite of insipid performances, he is often one of the highest assist makers in the league and is also a vital part of the Germany squad.

Everyone thought that Sanchez and Ozil would have handed Wenger the PL trophy but the Gunners are busy playing Europa League.

  1. Fernando Torres – Liverpool to Chelsea, £50million (2011)

Well, Liverpool has always been a selling club and this transfer definitely proved it. Torres who regularly humiliated Vidic in a Liverpool jersey couldn’t recreate the same magic while donning the blue one.

Only a solitary goal in his first six months before 11 in the next 49 games, his career just went downhill.

But no one can forget his goal against Barca which sent Chelsea into the finals of CL.
