Sukki Menon Talks About Her Inspiration, Future & Fears

-

You may have seen her as “Sukki Singapora” on Netflix’s Singapore Social – the show which is trending globally right now. The show is the first-ever docu-series featuring an all Asian cast set in Asia for international release.

Sukki Menon was one of the lead stars of the show and showcased her life and how she was navigating through all the curveballs that came her way.

Sukki Menon started in the entertainment industry through burlesque and was Singapore’s first international burlesque performer. Menon closed this chapter of her life on a high note and is now moving towards mainstream entertainment.

One of the biggest problems that Sukki has faced going into the entertainment industry is being told that it’s not a “real job”. The entertainment industry has tons of opportunities and requires a lot of hard work, such statements stem from the traditional prejudice against arts and entertainment.

“Yes, it can be challenging, and yes there are so many uncertainties, but I believe that if you are truly passionate about something, you will succeed.”, notes Sukki.

Sukki has an endless reserve of love for her work and is working on an upcoming project in India as well as using her platform to promote humanitarian causes.

She is the global ambassador for the Sharan Project, a UK-based non-profit dedicated to helping south Asian women.

When asked about her plans for the future, Sukki quotes the iconic movie Back to the Future, and says, “Where we’re going, we don’t need roads”. Sukki sees her future as an endless sky of opportunities.

“I think growing up I never really saw anyone that represented who I wanted to be as an artist. The lack of a role model was a struggle, as I had no guiding figure and had to navigate uncharted territory by myself. One of my biggest wishes is to be that person for the next generation of children who have larger than life dreams.”

Sukki has made it this far and continues to make big strides every day through her self confidence and belief in her capabilities. Sukki leaves us with a message for the upcomers and says, “Be brave. That’s the most important message. If you want something enough, move mountains to make it happen. Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear, so be brave.”
