OpED: Karnataka School Has Students Enact Babri Masjid Demolition For Programme

It’s no secret that Islamophobia has taken over the nation, with students being attacked, universities and public property vandalised, and Muslims being denied the right to citizenship that is granted comparatively easily to people of other religions.

In the midst of all this havoc, a certain school in Karnataka is adding fuel to the fire.

A Shocking Display

A school in Karnataka run by a trust belonging to a prominent RSS leader made news for a programme they conducted.

Recently, the school hosted a programme called Kreedotsava, for which they invited DV Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers, and Kiran Bedi, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor, as Chief Guests.

As part of the entertainment, young students dressed in white and saffron attacked a poster of the Babri Masjid, tearing it down to Hindu religious cries.

Sending the Wrong Message

This is all wrong on multiple levels.

Firstly, it’s sending the message that the school and the trust running it support Hindu-Muslim disharmony and consider the demolishing of the Babri Masjid a fine moment in Indian history.

Secondly, what kind of message does this send to the young, impressionable students who are likely to build their value system at school?

Straighten Priorities

This was an absolutely insensitive display that was quite irresponsible, especially considering the high state of tensions in the country now.

The priority should be to spread a message of unity and togetherness, not contribute further to the chaos.
