Breakfast Babble: ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in people.

Oh, how I love the Sunday mornings! Or at least loved them when I was a kid.

The sheer joy on my face when I used to watch Batman : The Animated Series on a Sunday morning with my breakfast and how my face lit up as I watched The Caped Crusader kick ass!

Old cartoons and the old days were indeed the stuff to live for!

But replacing those old cartoons and their charm, be it the goofiness of Shaggy and Scooby, the ass-kicking Batman, the boy genius Dexter, the spinach-loving Popeye or the amazing anime like Dragon Ball Z and THE REAL Pokemon series is the most impossible thing to do.

And let’s face it, the new cartoons haven’t done that.

Old Cartoons

Be it the stinking animation and voice acting in shows like Oggy And The Cockroaches or the stagnancy of Chhota Bheem, the old cartoons and anime have been replaced with poorly scripted, poorly acted and poorly targeted cartoons which have no meaning or message.

Even the last sensible anime which was available to us on a mainstream channel (talking about Naruto) has gone off-air.

And you know what’s problematic?

The mediocre quality of these new cartoons compared to the old cartoons which is turning our generation’s kids dumber than ever.

Honestly, I’ve learnt more lessons about friendship, honesty and loyalty from cartoons like Scooby Doo and anime like Dragon Ball Z than I could even count.

Old Cartoons Scooby Doo

That same message can’t propagate to the young minds today because the medium responsible to put this message across has become torturously idiotic and doesn’t seem to get any better.

Cartoons were a means of catharsis and when that catharsis gives you nothing but slapstick comedy with double-meaning references, it’s no wonder that the ones on the receiving end become dumber by the minute.

And that’s one of the prime reasons why believe that this generation is not “polite” enough because the one good thing which all kids deserve (wholesome entertainment), they’ve been robbed off that element by these utterly trash cartoons and the future definitely looks bleaker.

But eh, well.

At least we’ll always have YouTube re-runs!
