Just before the Karva Chauth festival, reports came out that some members of the Hindu Mahasabha and BJP MLA from Khatauli Vikram Saini were opposing Muslim mehndi artists from applying henna on the Hindu women who would be observing the festival.

As per a Zee New report “members of the Hindu Mahasabha have warned of dire consequences if a Muslim artist applies henna on the hands of Hindu women in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar.”

Saini has also reportedly been quoted as saying that “They do love jihad under the guise of applying mehndi. Many such cases have come to the fore. My request to Hindu women is to either apply mehndi at home or in a Hindu artist’s shop or beauty parlor.”

He as per sources said this in regards to the intentions that Muslim youths might have when opening mehndi shops, along with this it has also been reported that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) opened 13 mehndi stalls that will ensure the, according to an India Today report that “Muslim male make-up artists do not apply mehndi or henna to Hindu women. They are verifying the details of the mehndi artists by checking their Aadhar cards.”

A senior district leader of the VHP said in Muzaffarnagar was quoted by the Deccan Herald as saying that “We have opened 13 henna centres…only Hindu girls are employed there for applying henna on the hands of our bahus (daughters-in-law) and daughters.”

The leader also added that “We are keeping a watch on the main markets in the district…our workers will ensure that Muslim youth are not able to apply henna on Hindu women.”

VHP district president, Lalit Maheshwari, as per TOI said, “We have set up stalls where Hindu girls will be available to apply henna on the hands of our daughters and sisters. It is an attempt to break the back of jihadis. This also means more money in the hands of our people. Teams comprising members of Bajrang Dal have been formed to keep vigil across the city. If non-Hindu people are found applying henna on a Hindu girl’s hands, we will inform the police for action.”

However, it seems that district officials are not informed about all these ‘warnings’ by the VHP and a senior Muzaffarnagar district official said that “We will ensure that the law and order is not disturbed in the district.”

Even Muzaffarnagar SSP Vineet Jaiswal said, “No one will be allowed to ruin the festivities. Strict action will be taken against those who try to stop someone from doing business.”

The authenticity of this is still unknown though on whether these claims were really made or not.
