Rhapsody’17 is an initiative of the student members of the JGU Music Society, a Society founded for and by the members of the O.P. Jindal Global University.

O.P. Jindal Global University is a university that has a distinctive cultural setting, and based on the outskirts of NCR, with its microcosm of Indian rural life, and its rustic charm and local flavour, created an atmosphere of ecstasy and enthusiasm.

The exciting fest is from March 1st, 2017 to March 5th, 2017. The first three days of the fest would essentially be jam packed with various musical games like Musical chairs, Limbo, Lip Sync battle and Dog in the bone and activities like musical quiz and various movie screenings.

Furthermore, the major event of the first three days is the much-awaited Karaoke night which will provide an open stage for all the music enthusiasts to showcase their singing talents.

Moving on, the last 2 days i.e. March 4th and 5th entails the highlights of the main event. JGU Music society members and other professional musicians and bands will be seen performing. Some of these amazingly talented artists include:

The Jordan Johnson Trio:

Jordan Johnson is an acoustic singer based out of the capital city of India, New Delhi. He has performed in Hollywood, Ireland, England, South Africa, Thailand, New Zealand, Nepal, and Singapore.

Jordan has worked with several legendary producers, engineers and musicians, including Julian Wiggins, Nigel Palmer, Phil Harding, and Pandit Dinesh; these people have worked with veterans like Michael Jackson, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd, etc.

He has also been voted among the top five acoustic acts in New Delhi.

The Copycats:

A state of the art polymorphic tribute band from New Delhi, comprising of some of the best session musicians of New Delhi.

The members have performed some of the most authentic tribute shows in the past, including tributes to Bryan Adams, Michael Jackson, John Mayer, Maroon 5, RHCP, etc.

Peter Cat Recording Co.:

Peter Cat Recording Co.’s style ranges from Gypsy Jazz to Ballroom Waltz to Midnight Moonlight car chase music (think the movie Don).

The sound is inspired by 60s/70s Bollywood music, which was in turn inspired by American music of the 50s, such as big band music and soul. Lyrically, they choose to write about prostitutes, deception, android artists and films coming to life.

The fest promises to introduce and encourage the ‘culture of music’ which will make you re-imagine of how we as individuals perceive and view music.

Since our country is opening gates to other genres of music including jazz, pop and rock, which are quintessentially borrowed from the western culture, this fest will create a fusion of cultures: the global and the local, by virtue of offering a wide range of performances spread across numerous western and local genres of music.

The aim behind the fest is to introduce individuals to different genres of music, and develop a culture that is as rich and beautiful as the diverse population and ethnicity spread across this country, and the world.

We are firm believers of the idea that different types of people associate themselves with different kinds of music. The kind of music a person listens to, helps in gathering an insight of the inner side of that person. In a world like this, music has the power to change you in ways that are unknown and unexplored.

Through the medium of hosting Rhapsody’17, in collaboration with the Happy Globe Vision Foundation, a visionary organization for youngsters across the Globe to promote mental health and awareness through music, workshops, artist shows and social innovation, the event intends to propagate this idea of spreading happiness and positivity through the medium of this powerful energy of music.

Together, lets hope to spread mental health and awareness to all the students and people who come to witness the fest.
