Siggi’s, the Icelandic style yogourt brand, is offering $10,000, that is approximately Rs 8,31,172, to participants who complete a month-long “digital detox” by keeping their phones locked in a box.

So, What Exactly Do You Have To Do?

The  Digital Detox Program offered by this American company is inspired by “Dry January,” except the abstinence practised by competitors will not be from alcohol but from technology.

So, if you are above 18 years of age and can dare to survive without your phone for a month, then you may want to sign up for this before January 31, 2024.

You will also have to submit an essay explaining why they need a digital detox and how it will impact their lives in a positive way. The essay will be judged on “the authentic expression of commitment to the challenge of living for a month without a smartphone.”

10 people will be selected to compete for prizes that include a vintage flip phone, a sim card with a month’s worth of balance and free Siggi’s yogourt for three months.

Why Is The Yogourt Company Offering This Challenge?

A single continuous period of refraining from the use of one’s digital devices, including your phone, laptop or social media, is referred to as a digital detox.

“We believe in the power of living a simpler life with fewer distractions,” said Siggi’s in its website. “One of the biggest distractions in our lives is our phone. In fact the average person spends 5.4 hours on their phones each day.”

Kristina Drociak, the director of PR and digital strategy at the company said, “Our brand ethos is all about stripping away the unnecessary, and just like fewer ingredients in yogurt we believe fewer digital distractions can make for a more satisfying life.”

The goal of the program is to show people the benefits of going digital-free in hopes that this can start new healthy habits in 2024 and beyond,” she added.

Is This One Of A Kind Offer?

Many other companies have lured numerous customers before through such unique challenges, as marketing strategies.

In 2023, GymBird, a  fitness company that provides insights, tips, and solutions for athletes of all levels,  listed a position for a “chief steps officer”, which paid $10,000 for the “employee” to walk 10,000 steps each day for a month.

Similarly, in 2022, Field Trip Health, a psychedelic-enhanced therapy company, offered free services to people who had recently been laid off.

Want to be among the fortunate few swapping thumb-scrolling for a month of mindful living and a generous prize? This might be the challenge for you to take.
