A priest from a temple in Ghaziabad has had a First Information Report (FIR) filed against him for allegedly making remarks against former president Abdul Kalam. As per reports the priest of Dasna Devi temple Yati Narsinghanad Saraswati was booked on Saturday after a complaint was registered against him by Sub Inspector Prashant Kumar Gautam.

Gautam filed the FIR at the Wave City police station and brought up an alleged 16-second video clip where Yati is said to be making controversial statements about the former president along with also using inappropriate language for Muslims.

As told to Press Trust of India (PTI) Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra the video clip went viral on Friday night on social media and they registered the complaint believing it could negatively impact communal harmony.

Yati on his part, according to PTI, has accused the police of filing FIRs constantly based on the video clip which is quite old and bringing up the same issue repeatedly.

Apparently, this is not the first time that Yati has come under fire for his statements against former president Abdul Kalam. In March of 2021 when a Muslim boy was allegedly beaten for drinking water from the Dasna Devi temple premises, then also Yati had made derogatory remarks.

As per reports he told PTI “Any Muslim in the top echelons of the country cannot be pro-India and Kalam was a jihadi.”

The priest also accused the late former president of “supplying the formula of atomic bomb to Pakistan” while he was the DRDO chief without any proof.

He further claimed that “Kalam had maintained a cell in Rashtrapati Bhavan, where any Muslim could file his complaint.”

In September of 2021, Uttar Pradesh Police had even filed three FIRs against the priest for making remarks insulting women politicians. According to reports, video clips emerged where he allegedly said something along the lines that “women politicians were either mistresses of male leaders or members of families of influential politicians.”

A BBC report from January 2022 also had Yati’s lawyer Maa Chetnanand Saraswati, another priest at the same temple, claiming that the accused had more than 20 different cases filed against him.
