Feeding A Rapidly Growing Global Population: What Can You Do To Help?

-

It’s no secret that our world’s population is growing faster than we can manage it. In fact, the global number of people alive is expected to exceed 9.5 billion by 2050.

And if we’re struggling now, just how will we cope then?

You may have a lot, but others don’t.

The main issue overpopulation brings with it is food shortage. There are already millions of people around the globe with not enough to eat, and this problem is only getting worse. In addition, millions of people lack the correct nutritional values, like protein and carbs. Balance is just as important as amount of food, so what can we do, personally, to help?

Your average Joe and Jodie public may not think they can offer anything, but they can.

If everyone reading this post came together to show their support, we could make a big difference.

Say No To That Meal Out – Charitable Donations

Many sources agree that if everyone in the world donated just a small amount of money, we could solve global hunger problems quickly. So, the next time you’re eyeing up that McDonalds or that fancy meal out, think of the other uses of that cash. You could donate it to a charity to see it go right to the people who need it the most.

Just giving up one small luxury each month would allow you to have some spare cash to donate. Identify a charity or organisation that really speaks to you and arrange a donation. Ask them how they will spend your money.

Support Sustainable Food Source Initiatives

We have to start relying on sustainable sources in order to be able to meet demand.

There are lots of programs that exist to increase the food supply to our growing population, such as the global farmed salmon initiative. Every single week, new websites, articles, and organisations are built with the sole purpose of solving our food problem.

Many of these initiatives can be quite political, but that’s not a bad thing. Contrary to popular belief, politics isn’t about hurling abuse at one another. It’s about coming together. If you value any of these causes, then it’s worth seeking out an appropriate initiative for you to put your backing behind.

Volunteer Holidays

A volunteer holiday is a great way to experience life away from the comfort of your massive TV and comfortable bed. It will give you an insight in the lives of people who weren’t so lucky, and show you the power of community spirit and helping others.

When you go on your holiday, you could sign up for a program that aims to bring more food or water to local communities. This could involve something as simple as helping to install a water pump in a village. It’s a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but every little does indeed help.

All in all, the key is to work together. The solution will take more than just one person. Sustaining a rapidly growing population will prove difficult, but not impossible.

All it takes is a few small steps at a time – and that’s where you come in.
