Dedh Ishqiya- Movie Review

dedh-ishqiya_138476831920After ages we have a movie that is so very royal. Yeah! That’s the word-ROYAL. Sheer magic. Be it the sets, the costumes, the songs with the Sufi touch, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice- all of these take you to an era where romance was pure bliss. The seven stages of love-“Dilkashi, Oons, Mohabbat, Aqidat, Ibaadat, Junoon and Maut” have been beautifully portrayed. The scenes between the ever-so-graceful and ravishing Madhuri and Naseeruddin Shah leave you with a smile on your face and yearning for more. The controlled passion all so obvious in the looks passed between the two, the touching of hands, the resting of one’s head on the shoulder of the other equals love to reverence.images

Abhishek Chaubey’s direction almost nears perfection. I haven’t see Ishqiya so cannot comment on the similarity between the two movies but one sure can feel that directing a movie with such an unconventional storyline wouldn’t have been a child’s play. The smallest details have been taken care of and the camera man has left no stone unturned in justifying his talent. Arshad Warsi as usual floors you with his performance as the uncouth yet adorable Babban. His one-liners and double meaning innuendos ensure that you never have a dull moment in the movie. As far as Huma Qureshi is concerned, I don’t think she has ever looked hotter! The sheer magnificence that she is, is reflected in the acting and the way she carries herself so gracefully throughout the movie. It can be daunting to work with The Diva herself but she is effortless and has given yet another commendable performance after Gangs Of Wasseypur.

serIt’s not really my place to comment on the performances of stalwarts like Mrs. Dixit and Mr. Shah, so all I would say is go ahead and watch the movie, they won’t disappoint you.

P.S : Don’t walk out of the theatre as soon as the movie gets over. You just CANNOT afford to miss Madhuri perform on ‘Humari Atariya’ choreographed by none other than her guru, Pandit Birju Maharaj. The song alone is worth every penny you spent on the ticket!
