In South Korea, mandatory military service has suddenly become one of the hottest issues of discussion. Jung Ho-seok, a K-pop singer and BTS member better known by his stage name as J-Hope, just became the boy band’s second mandatory military duty member.

Jeon Jungkook, the youngest member of K-pop superstar BTS, also voiced his thoughts on the notion.

Jungkook On Military Enlistment

In a casual conversation with fans, the Euphoria singer mentioned how Jung Hoseok, nicknamed J-Hope, uploaded a snap of himself in their group chat and how cool he appeared to Jungkook.

Admiring his hyung’s snap in the group chat, the BTS member expressed his desire to join the military and return as a cool person.

Jungkook said, “Our Hope hyung recently had a ceremony for completing training. Hope hyung uploaded a selfie on our group chat, and his eyes became very manly.” He went on to add, “Ah, I have to go (to the military), too, though. I’ll go and return cooly.”

The Hairstyle Saga

Members of the ARMY have been enamored with Jungkook’s new hairstyle; nevertheless, guys entering for military service must trim their locks and opt for a buzzcut.

Fans who follow Korean celebrities are aware that the announcement of mandatory military service frequently coincides with their idols adopting that appearance. The BTS member has chosen a different method

He mentioned, “Rather than cutting all my hair suddenly, I will gradually cut it shorter and shorter. It’s called hair-lighting (play on words from gaslighting), and I will keep cutting my hair shorter until you guys all of a sudden ask, ‘What, when did his hair become so short? When did he buzz his hair?’ And so I will make it so that (my short haircut) feels natural.”

What Is Military Enlistment?

In South Korea, physically healthy men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months. The service’s term was originally set at 30 months, but has now been shortened to between 18 and 21 months.

It arose largely from the need to protect against North Korean invasion, as the conflict between the two countries is still technically ongoing.

The grounds for exemption or deferment from military duty have undergone various adjustments over the years. Individuals who are the sole breadwinners in their families or who have extraordinary talents in particular fields, such as sports or music, may be exempted or have their service duration reduced.

Well, though Jungkook is excited to serve in the military; how he would announce the same is what everyone is waiting for.
