BTS, aka Bangtan Sonyeondan, has once again made history, this time by becoming the first-ever South Korean pop artist group to get a major Grammy nomination.

The mega-superstar septet, including RM (Kim Namjoon), Jin (Kim Seokjin), Suga (Min Yoongi), J-Hope (Jung Hoseok), Jimin (Park Jimin), V (Kim Taehyung), and Jungkook (Jeon Jungkook) have officially received their first-ever Grammy nomination.

In a live stream broadcasted on 24th November 2020, the Recording Academy put out the nominees for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

BTS was listed under the category ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ for their 2020 released English-language single, “Dynamite”.

This makes them the first K-pop group in history to not only get a Grammy nomination but get it under one of the major categories.

Although, BTS is not the first Korean act altogether to be a part of the Grammys, Sumi Jo was the first Korean musical act to win a Grammy back in 1993 and even Hwang Byeong-Joon has won one.

However, both the artists were in the classical sphere, whereas BTS is in the pop artist category and a boy band at that.

Boy bands have famously been snubbed by the Recording Academy for Grammy nominations and it is accepted by the music industry that getting a major nomination for them is quite difficult.

This comes in light of their recent wins at the American Music Awards (AMAs) and even Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.

Dynamite, BTS’s first all-English song was released on August 21st and instantly set many records for the group. It became their first song to land a #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making them the first all-South Korean act to get the spot ever.

It stayed within the top 3 spots on the chart for a good five or so weeks, all the while setting new records at various other charts in UK, Australia, Canada and more.
