Living all alone and that too in an unfamiliar city is like surviving in a hostile environment. From being the king of your castle to being the housekeeper of your shade, you will manage almost everything on your own.
In Haruki Murakami’s words “at the end, once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you managed to survive. But one thing is certain. When you will come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in”.
You will go through ups and downs like in a roller coaster and if this is your unprecedented experience then the “downs” will be more in number, but it will be a very enriching experience which comes along with many singular perks, such as:
Bliss of solitude
Knowing of how to consume your time idly is a good thing to have in your bag of virtues. It is an art that not everyone knows, of not getting kicked by boredom whenever you have nothing to do. You can always use this time to introspect on your imperfections.
Cooking
If you don’t know how to cook (now we’re not talking about Maggi or a cup of tea, everybody knows it) then you will learn after a month or two and the feeling that you get when for the first time you cook for your parents is worth taking some trouble to learn it.
Roaming around the room naked
Yes, you read it right. You can roam around your room naked and without having any concern of being watched. It feels good when those sacred body parts get some air to breath.
Cry, Fart, Laugh, or pick your nose, and What Not!
You can do all that without attracting any of those weird looks of others to yourself. Look yourself in the mirror, admire yourself or work on your acting skills, sing aloud those explicit Eminem songs in your balcony at 2 a.m., go crazy, be yourself because no one is watching you.
Dual personality
The grin that comes up on your face when your friends complain about your coy behavior, if only they knew how just yesterday you have given a phenomenal performance of your acting or singing skills in front of the mirror, that crazy selfies that you took that you never show them, that though you hardly able to crack a joke in your group but the epitome of your humor that switches itself on when you go back to your room can make them go LOL. Moreover, the neighbours think of you a very mysterious person, among them the movieholics may be thinking of you being a RAW agent…huh…you never know ;)
Phlegmatic attitude
You get to learn to be complete. You become independent. The deliberate ignorance of some of your friends or getting ostracised by them now doesn’t bother you. You learn to speak less and listen more to break off the facades of other people that they wear daily.
The world is not all about things wafting out positive vibes. It will beat you to your knees. You will feel lonesome when the days aren’t good but it will teach you that not someone, but you are the shore and shade of all your problems.
