The tragic case of Sarthak Mattoo, a 33-year-old who was run over and killed by a speeding Thar, is heartwrenching on its own. However, the videos of his parents, desperate and overwhelmed with grief, especially at the lack of justice their late son is getting, might be more than one can take.
The victim’s father and mother both have come forward to talk about how the man behind the car is still roaming free, further exclaiming that if their son had just been taken to the hospital in time, he might have survived. For a couple that has lived a hard and difficult life so far, this is just another tragedy in the list of tragedies they have witnessed so far.
June 25 was a Wednesday. Sarthak’s birthday was June 27. He would have turned 34.
What Happened With Sarthak Matoo?
On the morning of June 25, 2026, Sarthak Matoo was coming back home on his motorcycle. The incident took place around 6.30 am near the Rajokri flyover in Delhi. It was during this time that Sarthak was hit by a Thar from behind, causing a collision and the bike to fall off the flyover.
During the investigation, the police found that the Mahindra Thar was registered under the name of a Bengaluru-based private company, but had been leased to Sagar Saha (29) an employee of the company from Bihar.
Saha then told the police during interrogation that the car was actually being driven by his friend Apurv Singh (30), a resident of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, and that he himself was in the passenger seat. While the police arrested Apurv on June 27, he was released on bail soon after.
The parents of the victim, since then, have turned to social media and the media to demand justice for their son. Sarthak’s father, Surender Mattoo, in a video said, “I am somewhat educated… can somebody tell me how you can get alcohol content in the blood after 50 hours?”
He added, “I am ready to do anything for justice. If I have to do it alone, I will. We are law-abiding citizens and taxpayers. Please get justice for my son.”
The parents, who are Kashmiri Pandits, shared a video message from their Gurgaon home and talked about how they have suffered their entire lives.
Surrender said, “Prime Minister ji, we are Kashmiri Pandits. Do I have to tell you what we went through? My parents died because of trauma. Our house was burned down. But we did nothing and moved on to build a new life. Now, my only son was killed by two drunkards. Why has the police not arrested them? Why are we only getting assurance?”
He also said, “This is me and my wife and we are half dead. Our only child was killed in a hit and run case on 25th June at 6.30 in the morning. Though the media has been with us but nothing has happened. I don’t know what the police department is doing. Have they arrested the culprits? No. They are roaming free while we are grieving. They left my son on the road to die.”

The father speaking with ANI also said, “On the morning of the 25th, he was heading from his home in Gurgaon to Noida for work. He works for an event management company in Gurgaon. He must have left home around 6.30 or 6.40 AM. I don’t know the exact time. He was on his bike and wearing a helmet. We later learned he was going to Noida for office work. The incident occurred near the Rajokri flyover.
A Thar came up from behind and hit my son. After the collision, the vehicle ran over him and left him lying on the road. They just left him there. We received a call from one of Sarthak’s colleagues. A kind passerby had witnessed the accident. He even sent the location where he saw the Thar. It had a Karnataka registration number. This kind person saw Sarthak lying there, picked up his phone, and saw that the last call was from Sarthak’s office, so he called the colleague.”
He also addressed the political leadership directly by name in another widely circulated clip:
“Pradhan Mantri ji kahan ho aap? Amit Shah ji kahan ho aap? Commissioner sahab kahan ho aap? Rekha Gupta ji kahan hai aap? Baadi baadi baatein karte ho? Mere bete ko nyay chahye.” (Mr Prime Minister, where are you? Mr Amit Shah, where are you? You make lofty claims. I want justice for my son.)

Surender told reporters, “It is his birthday today. Instead of a celebration, we are preparing for his funeral. This was not merely an accident; it was a hit-and-run, a deliberate act of killing a young man. They left my son lying on the road when the least they could have done was take him to a hospital.”

Not The First Time
This is not the first such incident involving a Thar. Over the years, several such cases have come out where the Thar was at the scene of a crime and took the lives of innocent people in vehicular accidents.
In March this year, two young children and their grandfather were killed by a speeding Thar in Gurugram.
The victims were 60-year-old Subhash and his two young grandsons Zayed Khan and Ishant, aged eight and 10 respectively. The grandfather and his grandsons had come from the Milkpur village in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, and had come to the Kohd village of Pataudi to meet his brothers.
On Friday, around 11 pm, as the victims were returning home, a Mahindra Thar struck them from behind and threw them several feet away. As per the police, the kids passed away on the spot while the grandfather died in a hospital.
In another case from 2025, a Mahindra Thar carrying six passengers was travelling at high speed on National Highway 48. The incident took place at approximately 4:30 in the morning on September 27, 2025, and involved three men and three women, all from Uttar Pradesh visiting Gurugram.
However, near Exit 9 at Jharsa, close to Rajiv Chowk, the driver lost control. The vehicle collided violently with a divider, overturned multiple times, and was left completely mangled by the impact.
The collision resulted in the death of five people and left one critically injured.
