Breakfast Babble is ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up (or not) for the day. We judge things, too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in, people.
It’s always at 2 AM when my brain suddenly decides I need to change my life. Maybe become a billionaire. Or an actor. Or get my dream physique.
Not at 6 PM when I actually have the energy. Or at 9 AM when the world feels mildly stable. Not at all.
My brain waits until I’m half asleep, one scroll away from dozing off to an illogical ASMR video, and then suddenly, it goes like, “I need to work hard now.”
And then, there I am, lying on my bed, making a 15-step plan to get my life together. I’ll suddenly start journaling. I’ll drink a gallon of water. Add a yoga mat to my cart. Start running. Get glass-clear skin. I swear I can hear some motivational music playing in the background, too. I finally sleep after setting an alarm for 5 AM so that I can change my life.
And it’s all good until the alarm actually rings… Then I snooze the alarm 28 times, reminding myself how “rest is equally important,” and go right back to sleep.
Honestly, I don’t know what magic 2 AM holds, but my brain suddenly starts running a full-blown TED Talk. It remembers every goal, every pending task, and every embarrassing text I sent sometime back in 2018.
And how is this even productive? I know I’m not going to fix my life. I’m just mentally planning a glow-up that will expire by sunrise. The funniest part is that even though my night brain is a motivational speaker, my morning personality is a sloth. And these two have clearly never met.

Maybe it’s because 2 AM is the only time the world around you goes quiet, so your thoughts are loud enough for you to hear them. And weirdly enough, this sudden rush of unrealistic motivation is kind of comforting, right?
Like I might actually start fresh and get it all together.
Maybe 2 AM is a reminder that a part of you still believes that you have the power to create change.
However, today I’m setting a boundary for myself: no new plans unless it’s to fix my sleep schedule, which, ironically, might actually fix half my life.
But I still often keep wondering, is it just me, or do you also think 2 AM is the best time to fix your life?
