A hostel room is home away from home so it has to look like one too.
It is very hard to survive in a dull boring room with cream walls for four years.
Especially for a design student who take inspiration from their surroundings, plain and boring is out of question.
So to make your room pretty, happening and very close to home like, this is what you do:
1. MEMORY IN CUPBOARDS
Every basic room in a hostel comes with a cupboard and that is like your memory board. With a little double sided tape or magnets you can put up pictures of your family and friends. Your artwork and maybe favorite movie posters can also go up there too. Waking up to Ranveer Singh’s Lootera poster right in front of you surely gives you a great day!
2. SOFT BOARDS TO TELL IT ALL
Not just for putting small reminder notes and your timetable, a pin board is a great way to showcase your expression. It could have pictures of trips you took or want to take. Small memories with tickets, passes or maybe even chocolate wrappers can be put up. This is one space where you can display all your creativity to the world. So when your friends come in the conversation starts itself when they look at the board.. All the “SO PRETTY AND OH WOW! DID YOU MAKE THIS”?
3. THE YELLOW SHINE OF THE FAIRY LIGHT
One of the most beautiful elements. Put anywhere and the room becomes serene and glowy. Easy to buy as they are available everywhere at cheap prices with so many colours. They give you the opportunity to brighten your room.
4. SO MUCH MORE WITH LIGHTS
Not just to put on your walls but you can do so much more with it. Put it behind some cotton and it makes a glowing cloud. A bird cage or may be a bottle can also be filled with lights.
5. DOORS AND MIRRORS
Doors are great places to put up life-size posters or to do lists. Mirror shouldn’t be over decorated but kept simple, cute and if in a girl’s hostel-PINK!
6. DREAMCATCHERS
Make it yourself or get it from a nearby store. You find them in all colors and beautiful feathers. BYE BYE to the nightmares!
7. ADD ONS
Plants give color to the boring rooms. Little handmade stands on the study table look interesting. Little baskets on the study table do give it a home like and pretty look.
8. PERSONAL TOUCH
Your room should speak out your personality, so if a reader your books should be highlighted. If a fashionista show off your accessories. Bollywood is in everybody’s heart and walls. And of course the artists love their art all around the room.Favourite soft toys and cushions always have their special place on your bed.
So do it yourself and make your room special.
