The recent arrest of Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after allegations regarding corruption and the liquor excise policy case has had a lot of people talking about such topics.

On Sunday, Sisodia was arrested by the CBI and sent to remand house till March 4th after the months-long investigation that is still going on into the Delhi liquor scam. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has reportedly denied the allegations and believes that the inquiry is politically motivated further pulling out protests against BJP.

In the midst of all this, Shashi Tharoor, Thiruvananthapuram MP and senior Congress leader posted a tweet that some believe is an indirect jibe at the BJP party and the topic of corruption and more.

What Did Shashi Tharoor Write?

On February 28th 2023, Shashi Tharoor tweeted a list of politicians with the caption “This is going around, so sharing as received. Always wondered about the meaning of na khaoonga na khaane doonga. (will neither eat nor let eat). I guess he was only talking about beef! (sic)”

The tweet as per reports seems to be mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s corruption slogan and talking about how the ‘khaunga (eat)’ part was only limited to beef and not actual corruption.

In the list, several names are mentioned like

  • Union Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Narayan Rane,
  • former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa,
  • Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Suvendu Adhikari,
  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,
  • Lok Sabha MP Bhavana Gawali,
  • Shiv Sena leader Yashwant Jadhav, Byculla (Maharashtra) MLA Yamini Jadhav, and
  • Ovala-Majiwada (Maharashtra) MLA Pratap Sarnaik

The jibe seems to be how all these politicians had cases and investigations going on against them in relation to corruption charges themselves, but allegedly they managed to get around the probe by switching to the BJP party and/or becoming its allies.

This is not the first time the opposition parties have raised such questions, recently Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also pointed out this slogan of the party while inquiring about the current allegation into the Adani Group.

Kharge further asked that a joint parliamentary committee be set up to properly investigate into the accusations and take appropriate action.
