The relentless firing by Israel on Palestine has been going on without any end only increasing the number of people killed in the region and the amount of destruction incited.

Buildings, history, culture, and houses, all of it turned to dust and rubble, people living on the streets and in inhumane conditions all while global politics does little to stop Israel. So far, 18,000 people have died in the indiscriminate war by Israel on Gaza.

In the midst of this, a campaign by the Spanish fashion retailer Zara has received major backlash for being insensitive to the destruction in Gaza.

The campaign titled ‘The Jacket’ part of their Atelier series is about promoting a new collection of Jackets. However, the images were heavily panned by many people, with over 110,000 posts calling for a boycott of the brand.

Palestinian artist Hazem Harb commented on the campaign on Instagram writing, “There is a sinister depravity in the commercial mind that produced this ad, while we are living a real time genocide. There is no way this is not intentional. Especially when we know of Zara’s support for the Zionists. Using death and destruction as a backdrop for fashion is beyond sinister, its complicity and should outrage us as consumers. Boycott Zara.”

Another user @samiraatash wrote, “Disgusting editorial campaign by Zara was posted today featuring white shrouded bodies, limbless mannequins, broken concrete, a pine box similar to Muslim coffins, powdery substance some say is like white phosphorus + broken drywall shaped like an upside down Palestine map!”

Here are 7 images from the campaign that people say highlight the insensitivity of the fashion brand and why it deserves this boycott.

Some of the images showed a pine box that looked similar to a Muslim coffin.

Another few had a powdery substance used in them that people compared to look like white phosphorus and rubble.

User @ZeenaAqel wrote “@ZARA’s new marketing campaign uses designs inspired by the ongoing genocide in Gaza to promote a new collection. coffins, destruction, corpses, and glorifying killing. Zara faced boycott calls a year ago after its hosted their local agent the Israeli leader with a thirst for killing Palestinians and Arabs, Itamar Ben Gvir, at an election event.”

One image had a piece of broken drywall that was in the shape of the Palestine map only it was upside down.

Several of the images also had bodies or mannequins covered in white which people compared to look like the images of dead bodies coming from Palestine.

Another few had limbless mannequins said to be another insensitive dig at the cruel conditions Palestinians are going through right now.

User @writernextdoor_ commenting on the campaign tweeted “Boycott Zara !! @ZARA Our suffering is not your Aesthetic. Our dying children are not your source of inspiration. Have some shame. Some humanity.”

The images were quickly condemned by many people across the world and they came in droves to call out the brand. One user commented “Do you think that 20,000 people are killed, and it is normal for you to use their deaths as a marketing method? Don’t come out and say you didn’t mean to… disgusting.”

Another wrote “My jaw dropped seeing this. Boycott for life. You are disgusting demons. I can’t believe what I’m looking at.”

Zara while has not yet commented on the boycott or the dark, disturbing parallels the campaign created did pull it down from the front page of its website and app on Monday itself. Inditex, the owner of the Zara brand also clarified that the “Atelier” collection had been created in July and the photoshoot for it done in September before the Isreal firing on Palestine began.
