That’s how powerful the world of Artificial Intelligence is. As we are moving towards a more developed society, gender biases are challenged at every step. 

Gone are the days when data science and AI were dominated by men. The field is now equally cherished by female data scientists and AI leaders. Here is a list of the top female techies in the country who are challenging the aged societal biases with their work. 

Amarjeet Kaur

Working in the Healthcare Department of JIO, Amarjeet Kaur is a well-known personality in the field of Machine Learning and Data Sciences. She is currently a Sr. Manager in the firm. Before JIO, she also served as an Innovation Head for an R&D arm of Tech Mahindra. Kaur has served in this field for more than 11 years. 

Her work at Tech Mahindra earned her immense success and fame. She was also awarded a Research Project Grant by the Ministry of Science and Technology, GoI. In 2021, Kaur received the Research Excellence Award from the Institute of Scholars. She specializes in fields including applied research, AI, Machine Learning, and Project Handling. 

Apurva Madiraju

Working as an Assistant Vice-President in the Data Science branch of Swiss Re Global Business Solutions, Apurva Madiraju is another shining name on this list. With more than 11 years of working experience, she has worked for many International firms in the past. Her fields of expertise include Machine Learning, AI, and Data science & engineering. 

She is now leading the Advanced data science team at Swiss Re. Apurva became a part of the MILE program in 2019 at Swiss Re Global Business Solutions. This is a huge achievement as only 1% of the total employees are selected for the program. She was also honored with the Annual CEO Award for Finance Reinsurance 2018 in the same firm.

Samiya Khan 

A tech lover who has transformed her passion into a profession, Dr Samiya Khan is a well-known computer scientist and AI leader. She is currently serving as a Research Fellow at the University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. She did her PhD in computer science from Jamia Millia Islamia, India and served as a faculty member at the same university. 

With the experience of working in academia as well as industry, the spectrum of her work experience is rather wide. Dr Khan has also previously served as Associate Editor for the Scientific India Magazine and won the In Sc Research Excellence Award in 2017 for her research contributions. She is a notable speaker and is popularly known for her lectures on cognitive science and the use of artificial intelligence to drive data-driven decision support systems.

Dr Khan’s expertise spans across artificial intelligence, edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT), with experience in the development of heterogeneous systems. Her research interests include the use of Artificial Intelligence for IoT applications such as smart healthcare and smart agriculture. 

Lakshya Sivaramakrishnan

Lakshya Sivaramakrishnan is a Technical Program Manager at Google. Apart from data science, she has expertise in machine learning, Google Assistant & Cloud Platform. Her previous experience includes working as a Data Scientist at Cerner and as a software engineer at GE Healthcare. 

Lakshya often conducts technical workshops. Some of the previous ones include PyCon India 2018, Data Science 101 Workshop for PyLadies. In 2019, she also mentored attendees at the Grass Hopper celebration in Orlando. 

Jaya Vaidyanathan

Jaya Vaidyanathan is the CEO of BCT Digital, an international technology company owned by the BahwanCyberTek Group. She has also worked with firms like HCL, Standard Chartered Bank, and Accenture. She did her engineering in Computer Science from Madras University. 

She has been a recipient of many awards like India’s Most Trusted CEO Award 2020, TECHNOVITI 2020 Award for Early Warning System, and Stevie Innovator of the Year Award 2019.

These women techies are changing the world of technology for good. They are setting strong examples that no profession is limited to any one gender. With hard work and determination, achieving what one wants is possible.
