MS Dhoni is probably only second to Sachin Tendulkar in terms of the influence he has had on the cricketing spectrum in India. There is absolutely no one who can replace him and have the same positive influence. The second greatest captain to have led India, let us look at some of the candidates who have the potential to don the gloves in the shorter format of the game.

Sanju Samson

Samson has been in the limelight for quite a while and showed glimpses of absolute brilliance in IPL and in the domestic circuit but hasn’t lived up to his potential. So far he has proved to be a better keeper than the highly acclaimed Rishabh Pant but what many experts see is that he might be another case of wasted talent. There is no doubting his talent but a lot of work needs to be done.

KL Rahul

Kannaur Lokesh Rahul is the probably the best batsman on this list.

In less than two years since making his horrific debut in tests against Australia, the lad from the Karnataka has a century in all formats of the game and has proved his mettle against the best sides in the world.

Rahul is not a specialist wicket-keeper and his feeble keeping skills have been criticized now and then. If he can improve upon it, then hands down, he is the favorite to replace Dhoni in the future.

Aditya Tare

He is the oldest among the players mentioned in this article but there is no doubting his skills especially in the shorter formats of the game.

Tare had captained his Mumbai side to a Ranji Trophy victory in 2015 which puts his credentials as a level-headed leader and one who can be trusted upon.

The ones who watch IPL religiously cannot forget his last ball six against the Rajasthan Royals which propelled the Mumbai Indians who ultimately clinched the title. He might not be in the reckoning for the wicketkeeper’s post but he is definitely to look out for.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh pant is the most likely of all the candidates to replace Dhoni in the Indian Cricket Team.

The 19-year-old talented cricketer from Delhi has already made his international debut as a batsman and is tipped to be the long-term replacement for both Saha and Dhoni.

Having performed considerably well for the Daredevils, he is still a bit inconsistent but has all the potential in the world to be successful.

Ishan Kishan

Not many people know about Ishan but he had turned for the Rajkot team led by Raina in IPL and performed considerably well. Yes, there is a lot to improve when it comes to his wicketkeeping skills but there is no doubt about the fact that this talented left-hander will be one of the names to reckon with in the future.

Replacing MS Dhoni is going to be an arduous task but we have our fingers crossed and have full faith in the upcoming generation of cricketers.
