“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I wrote down ‘happy’! They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” – John Lennon
Happiness is that one thing, which has a universal appeal. Virtually, everyone strives for it, but not everyone reaches it. The reason: We are busy confusing happiness with the fulfillment of desires. We fail to understand that it is not the possession of materialistic stuff, but the moments, which make one happy.
I’ve tried compiling a few of these, which I’m sure make most of us happy, every time.
1. A hug from a best friend
Though a hug from anyone works wonders, I am a bit biased towards the hug from a best friend. Because when it involves friends, a hug is not just a formal physical gesture, but an entire emotion in itself. You have had an awkward moment, sorted out a fight, you are terribly sad or even super excited; the situation doesn’t count. The fact of the story is that every hug comes with gobs of happiness and is never worth a miss.
2. Old photographs
If you belong to a family like mine, who are crazy for capturing every moment, you would know what I mean. Seated on your bed, with photographs all around, wondering how stupidly you were dressed on your 5th birthday or how pretty your mom used to be, is what happiness at its peak refers to. No matter how well you know the story behind every click, you would never mind listening and laughing at them again. For, such is the charm of these prints.
3. A kid smiling in his dreams
This is probably not the best sight of the world, but definitely no less. A kid, fast asleep, and then suddenly he/she smiles. You start guessing what they are probably dreaming of; chocolates, candies or their favorite toy, maybe. And before you know, you are smiling too. :’)
No matter how much I love being a grown up, this sight always makes me want to be a kid again!
4. A melted chocolate
This, for sure, is one of a kind happiness; best experienced all alone! With no siblings around (to ask for it); no friends around (to snatch it) and no parents around (to tell us how pathetically, you eat), licking your fingers, is heavenly, no matter how absurd it may sound.
5. A school/college reunion
This is my personal favorite. When after a series of calls, messages or emails, friends finally meet, life comes to a still. You forget your sick job, your irritating colleagues, your troubles, your debts and all that you talk about that moment is your school, your pranks, your first crushes and your first bunk. You’ll laugh, you may even weep, but you’ll be super happy for sure.
And this is not where the list ends. There’s so much more to it; your favorite book, sunsets, rainy nights, an ice cream during winters and one can go on and on. All you need is to start living your life, these moments, and not just surviving them!
