On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the new parliament building and among them was the new national emblem on the new Parliament building. However, in the span of a day, a lot of people have taken immense offence against the appearance of the new emblem and how it seemingly looks different from the original one.

The new emblem, standing at an impressive 6.5 meters or just a little over 21 feet, shows the 4 Asiatic lions standing back to back on a circular disc. The emblem was inspired by a sculpture placed atop several pillars called Lion Capital of King Ashoka from 250BC.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has reportedly commented on how the original four lions appeared more gentle as compared to the new ones that have bared fangs, overly muscular stature and an overall angry look to them.

In 2018, an image of angry Hanuman also went viral, leading to a lot of questions being raised. Although the image, created by Karan Acharya, a 29-year-old graphic designer from Kerala in 2015 was made without ill intentions, it caught PM Modi’s eye who appreciated it on his social media, leading to his followers making the image go viral and turning it into an angry symbol.

Acharya as per reports has clarified that the image was just meant to represent the god in a powerful way but never meant to oppress anyone.
