Fashion changes faster than the speed of light. To keep up with the new, upcoming trends, each market equips itself to please it’s shoppers. But some markets go a step ahead and become favourites.
Some such fashion freaky streets of the country have found a place on our Street series.
1. Linking Road, Mumbai
Established in 1940, Linking Road is the most important fashion market of the city. All international brands along with street stalls and niche stores are present on street. With multiple entries, this mile long road records a footfall of over 5000 every day.
2. Johari Bazaar, Jaipur
Situated near famous monuments like Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Samode Haveli, Johari Bazaar houses shops ranging from gold to clothes to silverware to the popular ‘rajasthani shoes’. Unlike most markets, Johari Bazaar has a lively yet systematic arrangement of shops hence there is minimum chaos and the shoppers can spree in harmony.
3. Jew Street, Kochi
Noted for antique shops, this market was first established in 52 AD by the resident Jewish population. The market specializes in crockery, carved wooden furniture, bronze and brass sculptures. The famous Jewish Synagogue is also located on the street.
4. Law Garden, Ahmedabad
A market outside the Law Garden, the market is famous for handicraft goods sold by locals. It mainly includes Chania choli, wall hangings, costume jewelry etc. Even if you don’t end up buying anything it is the authentic presence of the market that will leave you enamoured by the city.
5. Kanchipuram, Chennai
Sleepy town just miles away from the main city, Kanchipuram is a major sari weaving center of Tamil Nadu. The town houses weaving centers coupled with shops selling saris at discounted rates.
Let’s not forget Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and other major shopping hubs of India that have for long been fashion centers of the country.
