How To Spoil Biopics Like Airlift, Neerja – Bollywood Style

Jab tak desh mey cinema rhega, tab tak log ch*tiya bante rahenge!”Ramadhir Singh (Gangs of Wasseypur II)

This statement cannot be truer.

Bollywood is famous for making movies involving the level of stupidity greater than that of Donald Trump. People like KRK, who have done just one film which was in itself a major flop, now gives review of films starring Shahrukh and Amir. Now that is classic Bollywood.

A New Path

However, Bollywood has started making biopics of unsung Indian heroes who made India proud. Movies like Neerja, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Airlift have seeped into the market to become awareness generating movies and at the same time instilling in public the spark of nationalism.

Good to see that Bollywood is taking the road less traveled. But since it is Bollywood, therefore, it has got to be clichéd.

How to spoil a movie – Bollywood style

  1. Add an irrelevant love angle

Every biopic compulsorily has a love angle. Be it Neerja or Ranjit of Airlift. Similar was with Milkha Singh’s sex on the beach scene and irrelevant love angle.

  1. Add a tadakta bhadakta item song

While watching airlift, the first thought that ran through my mind was “Why on earth would there be an item song here? Aren’t people suppose to die?”

  1. Spice it up with blatant dialogues so that people could quote them later

Do you really think Milkha Singh or Ranjit of Airlift spoke these ultimate heart-wrenching dialogues so spontaneously, every time they opened their mouth? Wasn’t there a normal conversation ever?

Well, we can’t say much. It’s the Bollywood style of doing (or ruining) stuff.

I wonder what kind of khichadi they will cook between Modi and Jasodhaben if a NaMo biopic is made.

Apart from these drawbacks these movies, or rather movie directors, suffer from, it is a very decent way of spreading nationalism and making people aware of their unsung heroes. Bollywood is giving Indians reasons to be proud of their nationality. But while doing so, they forget the implementation of logic.

I dream of seeing a Bollywood movie having no love angle or an item song or spicy dialogues.
