The Harry Potter movies have been one of the most successful movie adaptations in the history of English literature. Every time that a director has announced a movie adaptation, booklovers have dreaded the outcome. Not with the Harry Potter franchise though. Every Potterhead has waited for the next movie with bated breath.
We Indians always have a tendency of adding a Desi Twist to everything. While reading up on Quora, I came across a representation of the Warner Bros. produced Harry Potter in Bollywood Ishtyle! Being an incorrigible Potterhead, I read up extensively on Quora and compiled this quirky Desi cast of the Harry Potter franchise.

Harry Potter: Ranbir Kapoor
I don’t entirely agree to this but well, since the answers are a spin-off from the most popular answers on Quora, I’ll have to go with it. However, he’s a great actor and he might just do justice to The Boy Who Lived.
Hermione Granger: Kangana Ranaut
I have always been extremely partial to Granger, so much so that I’ve often believed that the series should’ve been named after her! Quorans happen to think Kangana might be able to do justice to this strong literary woman and I have to admit there are some striking similarities the most striking of which is the bushy hair.
Ron Weasley: Aditya Roy Kapoor
This is partly because of casting Ranbir Kapoor as Harry Potter. Aditya and Ranbir have the perfect bromance in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and one can’t help but hope they’d be the perfect best friend duo here too.
Neville Longbottom: Kayoze Irani
Timid and nerdy usually, but just the right amount of brave when needed: perfect!
Luna Lovegood: Aditi Rao Hydari
Luna is a woman who lives life on her own terms and doesn’t give two hoots about what other people think of her. Aditi could do justice to her character as well as the look, Quorans feel.
Albus Dumbledore: Amitabh Bachhan
Show me a more apt cast for Dumbledore and I will happily write off my house to you. Bachhan is the ONLY person in Bollywood and possibly in world cinema too who could pull off Dumbledore like a boss. Charisma, authority, the magnanimity: he’s got it all.
Lord Voldemort: Sanjay Dutt
Not just your average Sanjay Dutt, the Agneepath Sanjay Dutt would just steal the deal. Bald head, forever sour way of speech and here, we have a very Desi You-Know-Who indeed.
Bellatrix Lestrange: Rekha
There cannot be a more accurate casting. Period. Rekha is an extremely talented actress and almost even loks like a Desi version of Helena Bonham Carter. Plus, playing the enigmatic femme fatale has always been Rekha’s thing.
Draco Malfoy: Neil Nitin Mukesh
If one could leave apart the acting skills, the similarities in the physical structures of both are striking. Also, I believe Mukesh could pull off that Draco smirk like a pro.
Severus Snape: Kay Kay Menon
Kay Kay is the only Indian actor that has one very vital quality that is indispensable hwile playing Snape: a certain silkiness to his acting and movements that is so very characteristic.
Sirius Black: Nawazuddin Siddiqui
One word that could justify this casting: Nawazuddin is a maverick. Hence, quite the person to play this iconic character.
Remus Lupin: Irrfan Khan
Smart, sensitive, thoughtful is what both Irrfan Khan and Lupin are. He is just the right person to be the sensitive guardian to Harry’s troubles.
Peter Pettigrew: Kapil Sibal
Have you seen the similarity in their facial structure? It is astounding, such that they almost look like two long lost brothers.
James Potter: Aamir Khan
Not the present mature Aamir Khan, mind you. Go back ten years and you will have Aamir Khan a.k.a Desi James Potter. Just the right amount of naughty, smart and chocolaty: how can we forget his performance in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak?
Lily Evans Potter: Preity Zinta
Charming and talented: just what is expected of an actor worthy enough to play the iconic Lily Evans Potter.
Ginny Weasley: Anushka Sharma
Ginny is talented and quiet yet can be an unstoppable force of nature at the correct time: kinda reminds you of Anushka Sharma, doesn’t it?
Fred and George Weasley: Ranver Singh and Ranveer Singh
Fun, quirky and forever the prankster, ladies and gentlemen, presenting Ranveer Singh in a double role as the Weasley twins.
Arthur and Molly Weasley: Anupam and Kirron Kher
They are the #couplegoals of Bollywood and who would doubt Arthur and Molly’s love? For sure, no other couple can bring the chemistry better than the Khers.
Minerva Mcgonagall: Ratna Pathak
Suave, smooth yet strict and classy: Ratna Pathak is so totally the Desi version of the beloved Transfiguration Professor.
Rubeus Hagrid: Satish Shah
There could not be a more physically perfect casting. Pot bellied and lovable with a forever plastered wide grin on his face, Satish Shah is my kinda Desi Hagrid.
Dolores Umbridge: Shabana Azmi
Cool, conniving, evil and the most hated character in all of the Harry Potter Universe. While Shabana definitely is a very pleasing personality, she is also a very talented actress and Quorans honestly believe she could do perfect justice to the role of dolores Umbridge.
