4 Sequels Or Reboots Of Hit TV Shows That Tanked Miserably

reboot of hit tv shows

There are always those TV shows that we love and those that we wished we could forget. Some of these shows make history for one reason or another, be it that they were groundbreaking in storytelling, or be it that they were so normal and universal, that the show spoke to every individual no matter where they are from or what generation.

FRIENDS, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, MASH, Dekh Bhai Dekh and more are just mere examples of the heights that TV shows can reach.

Films only have a running of about 3-4 weeks max, but TV shows have an eternal life and if well-received then a chance to be counted as an evergreen show.

However, some of these shows I believe, overreach a bit too much and create sub-par and even obnoxious sequels or reboots of these beloved TV shows that sadly and quite inevitably, fail to reach the same level of success.

Here are 4 TV show sequels or reboots of hit TV shows that tanked miserably:

1. Joey:

FRIENDS is and always will be an epic TV show that can never really be matched, the level of love and connection it received, truly is one of a kind.

But after the ‘sad and tearful’ conclusion of the hit TV series, there came on a spin-off called ‘Joey’ based on the favourite character of Joey Tribianni.

The show focused on Joey’s move from New York to Los Angeles to focus on his acting career.

The show was a complete fail and was cancelled after just 2 seasons due to poor ratings.

2. Naya Office Office:

Who can forget the critically acclaimed and wonderful show called Office Office. The show followed a common man in various different situations who had to deal with the workings of government officials.

The show shed a stark light on how many these offices actually worked and how in the end it was the common man who was made a fool of in the process.

The show managed to give out a strong social message while still being hilarious with some great comedic acts coming from Pankaj Kapur, Aswara Joshi, Deven Bhojani, Sanjay Mishra and more.

Office Office saw a successful run, but when it came back with a second season called Naya Office Office, it failed to gain the same fan base as before.

3. Scrubs: Med School

Fans of Scrubs prefer to think of it’s last and final 9th season or a spin-off called Scrubs: Med School as something of a fever dream.

Scrubs that had a good long run from 2001 to 2010, creating many memorable moments and giving us best friend goals with JD and Turk. It is also one of the few comedy-dramas out there that were able to balance the comedy and drama without having too much of either.

But the last season that ventured away from the original and brought in a whole new team with many fan favourites leaving or only making guest appearances dug the grave for the show.

4. Hum Paanch Season 2:

Where Hum Paanch gave us amazing characters, hilarious episodes and made us open doors in a completely new way, the 2nd second season of this show could not measure up to its earlier success.

The show that ran from 1995 to 1999 was much loved and became a cult show very quickly. But it’s 2nd season that came in 2005 and ran till mid of 2006 was not only not funny but also lacked the earlier spirit of the show.
