We’re Disappointed.
Tiger Shroff has made a jaw-droppingly sexist statement and we all, by now, know what it was. Still, for the rare uninformed,
“I will get married to a girl from the village. When I reach home, I want a massage so that I can get relaxed. She should stay at home, keep the house clean and give me home-cooked food. I like girls who are the housewife-type.”
This can point in two directions. One, Tiger Shroff is indeed really sexist and uninformed of the world he is to live in. Two, it’s just a publicity stunt for his upcoming film, Baaghi: A Rebel For Love. (Ouch, “rebel for love”, really?) I’m hoping it was just for publicity indeed, as sad as it is to resort to such a comment.
Either way, what does “housewife-type” mean anyway? I will need more elaboration over that subject, but sure as hell it doesn’t quite refer to “masseuse + cook + housekeeper”. Oh by the way, what salary would Tiger have decided for the “housewife-type”, I wonder.
Comparing to Priyanka Chopra
In a related context, my Facebook feed is all but inundated with status posts drawing parallels between this and Priyanka Chopra’s statement. She had said that she’d need a man only to birth a child. Argument is, why is Priyanka Chopra not sexist when Tiger Shroff is?
Um, a women’s statement of independence is different from a man reducing a wife to mere chores. And the latter is as demeaning to a city girl as it is to a village girl who in the world of Tiger Shroff would necessarily stay at home, cook, clean, and basically be at the complete service of her husband. WAIT, did he just imply he wouldn’t be able to “handle” an urban-raised wife? He better not try.
Oh, Tiger! Here’s my two cents of wisdom. Why don’t you look for an independent, kind, compassionate, compatible companion instead? Or if you just need a massage, home-cooked food and a clean house, try one of those services listed on Justdial or something – I’m sure you’re successful enough to pay for those, marriage is not a necessity for that.
