Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept. It’s part of everyday life. Whether it’s drafting emails, solving assignments, planning trips, generating images or answering questions in seconds, AI has become the go-to assistant for millions. For Gen Z, the first generation to grow up alongside rapidly evolving technology, using AI often feels as natural as using Google once did.
But this convenience has also raised an uncomfortable question. As AI becomes capable of thinking, writing and creating on our behalf, are we becoming too dependent on it? Is it helping young people learn faster, or slowly taking away the need to think critically, solve problems independently and be creative? With AI tools now finding their way into classrooms, workplaces and even everyday conversations, the debate has never been more relevant.
To understand what young people actually think, we asked Gen Z a simple question- Is AI making your generation dumber?

Their responses suggest the answer isn’t as black and white as many assume. Most agreed that AI itself isn’t making people less intelligent. Instead, they felt the impact depends entirely on how it is used. While many acknowledged that overreliance on AI could weaken critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills, they also recognised its potential as a powerful learning and productivity tool when used responsibly.
The overall consensus was clear. AI should support human intelligence, not replace it. Used thoughtfully, it can make people more efficient. Used carelessly, it risks making them dependent. In the end, the technology isn’t deciding the outcome, its users are.
