Watch: What Makes Auroville Different From Other Spiritual Villages

235

Auroville is an experimental township which was founded by Mirra Alfassa- endearingly referred to as “The Mother”- and designed by Roger Anger. It is mostly situated in Tamil Nadu but some parts of it lie in the Union Territory of Pondicherry. Auroville refers to the City of Dawn. It is also named after Shri Aurobindo.

Just like the village transgresses the state border, the society in itself transgresses the divisions caused by creeds, politics, and nationalities. It has been recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed experiment in human unity and consciousness transformation.

It is a community of over 2000 members from 50 nations and the vision for Auroville is that it belongs to no one in particular but to humanity as a whole.
