Better Call Saul: Creators Ready to Break Bad Again

If there are two things I am truly passionate about, they are photography and television. Some might even call me an addict. God. That word ‘addict’. It reminds me of one very special TV series. Yes, you got that right. Yeah bitch, you got that right. Breaking Bad.

When a show manages to be funny, dramatic, thrilling and addictive all at the same time, while revolving around cancer (and drugs, of course), you know it’s a special one. Breaking Bad has got all the appreciation it deserves. It’s the highest rated TV show on IMDB with a score of 9.5/10. Only Game of Thrones shares such a high rating.

Anyway, fans of Breaking Bad were pretty much devastated when the show was finally taken off air in September 2013. The last few days, though, I’m sure they’ve got their groove on. Why? Well remember a low-life lawyer called Saul Goodman? Yea, that guy. The semi-bald weirdo. He has his own TV show!

Better Call Saul, a prequel to Breaking Bad, premiered on ABC earlier this week. And man, it felt so good. The creators of Breaking Bad are back, and they’re back with a bang. Sticking to their classic, slightly cryptic, style of story-telling, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have created another TV series which promises to be as encapsulating as Breaking Bad.

Don’t Call Saul Just Yet!

Bob Odenkirk is back as our favorite scumbag attorney; a role no one can possibly play better. However, this time he isn’t the Saul Goodman we all know. He’s attorney James McGill. James McGill is the guy Saul used to be, before he realized that survival in a world full of sharks (read crazy drug lords and criminals) is hard.

The first two episodes show Mr. McGill as a struggling lawyer, working out of a rented room behind a beauty parlor, which also doubles up as his house. He also drives a car from the T-Rex era. But not all is lost for this bright, young man. Acting more like the Saul we knew, he manages to get hold of a scamming politician. And he wants to defend them.

And then things go south for McGill. I don’t want to give out any spoilers, but let’s just say that James McGill gets into a sticky situation with a certain Mr. Tuco.

So When Can We Call Saul?

As per sources, the first season of the show is to follow the life of James McGill, leading up to the point where he sets up his own strip-mall in New Mexico. McGill will probably change his name and methods of dealing with clients somewhere around the halfway point. And once that happens, the show might get even more interesting than it has already proven to be. And that, friends, is when you put your iPhones to good use.

Heisenberg? Jesse? Where are you?

Sadly for fans, appearances from Heisenberg and Jesse Pinkman aren’t expected on the first season of the show. Nevertheless, a few known faces have already been featured on the show. Mike Ehrmantraut (played by Jonathan Banks) and Tuco (played by Raymond Cruz) have made appearances, with Ehrmantraut expected to be an integral part of the TV series as it progresses. Hopefully, Gilligan and Gould will play to the fans’ desires and feature Braking Bad’s lead actors on the show some time soon.

While viewers will miss Jesse Pinkman’s eccentricity and Heisenberg’s brilliance, the transformation of James McGill to Saul Goodman will definitely captivate viewers.

I would definitely recommend this show to everyone, especially if Breaking Bad had you hooked on to it. With a good plot, amazing acting and commendable direction & cinematography, Better Call Saul might just win IMDB’s Game of Thrones.
