“The Delhi Government is going to launch a platform to give jobs to the blue collar workers in order to ease the situation of migrant and daily wage labourers”, commented Mr. Jasmine Shah, Vice Chairman, Dialogue & Development Commission, Government of NCT of Delhi, at the CII Delhi e-Conclave, organised on 3 July 2020.
Since Delhi’s economy is facing its worst recession in many decades, the main focus of the e-Conclave was to deliberate upon how to propel Delhi’s economic engine. Almost all sectors which are key for Delhi’s economy were discussed extensively at the Conclave.
“Delhi conducts 20,000 COVID tests every day. We are close to 30,000 tests per million, which is much higher than the national average. We have also put in place a very good home isolation programme. Delhi is the first city in India to launch a Plasma Bank. Delhi Government was also the first one to support opening up of the economy after the lockdown”, said Mr Shah.
He added that the number of patients recovering from COVID are more than the number of new cases. These are welcome signs, and has been made possible due to the handwork of doctors, nurses and the workers on the ground.
The government is planning to launch a labour matching platform online for all the job seekers and employers and will facilitate this matchup in the coming times.

Mr Rajeev Yaduvanshi, Principal Secretary, PWD, Government of NCT of Delhi said “We all have to work together as one country to overcome this pandemic. Delhi has many smaller, non-polluting industries and it is commendable that most of them continued to pay wages to the workers during the lockdown. Delhi is a very wage sensitive city. This epidemic is not only about tackling the disease, but it has also enhanced certain other challenges that India has already been facing.”
Ms Taapsee Pannu, Indian Film Actress said “The film fraternity is together in this crisis. There are a lot of workers who depend on weekly wages and all of us have decided to take care of them till the time the economy gets back to normal. I believe that when things return to normal, people will flock the theatres again. You can’t replicate the theatre experience with streaming websites.”
While speaking on nepotism in the film industry, she mentioned that favouritism, being integral to human nature, will not go out of the industry.
Mr. Aditya Berlia, Chairman, CII Delhi said “Delhi Government has done a lot of work in tackling Covid-19. These are testing times for all of us. CII is extending all possible support to people who have been affected in this crisis. The Relief and Rehabilitation Interventions of CII include distribution of Personal Protective Equipment, Hygiene kits, Ration kits and other daily essentials among the communities. Ample awareness is also being created regarding the best practices, importance of maintaining hygiene, etc. to ensure safe and healthy communities.”
Mr. Kanwal Jeet Jawa, Vice-Chairman, CII Delhi commented “We all are on the same side of fighting this invisible enemy – the coronavirus together. We need to effectively lead our organizations keeping in mind that the Covid-19 will not disappear anytime soon and we need to manage our economy along side.”
