The “elimination of the cliché factor” is a big-big concern for the organising team of any fest.
Days of brainstorming, endless nights of discussions and several meetings later, you get to a position of adding the ‘tadka’ to your everyday ‘dal chawal’.
Game of Sponsors:
When competing with fests like CROSSROADS and MECCA, the real fight is won when you get the best of sponsors!
After frantically searching for ‘personal contacts’ and days of endless monotonous ‘cold calling’, you get that one big important meeting. Proposals are sent, meetings fixed and then it’s finally peaceful – the money starts flowing in!
Research and Analysis:
With pockets overflowing with ‘dough’, you have to know where to put it. After all, Warren Buffet didn’t grow rich from blindly investing. But where, when and on whom to spill that ‘hard earned money’?
Big Stars are compared. Economics has taught us that you get maximum utility at minimum price/cost. So, the sweet spot has to be found where you get the most of a performance at the least cost.
Moreover, nothing comes free. You have to weigh the benefits of a good expensive sound system with cheaper lighting or a smaller stage. Optimal allocation of resources is what leads to equilibrium.
Effective Allocation of Work:
We’ve been told time and again that hard work pays off. Well, guess what, it’s true! A bestrewed “pack of cards” would serve no purpose. A closely held pack would do wonders!
Remember Business Studies in class XII? Big sub-headings like ‘division of labour’, ‘satisfaction’, ‘delegation’, etc. used to make us cry. Well, that’s the kind of stuff you use here.
Dividing the workforce based on events, allocating work according to preferences and proper management is key to a good fest. Sounds like running an MNC doesn’t it?
Legions of Disputes:
If you think that conducting a fest is a “joyous ride”, then you are in for a shock! Opinions don’t match, choices vary and disputes arise. The biggest fight then is to shun the arguments and work with greater zeal for a successful fest!
To the outside world, it is always a treat, but the ones who actually work for it relies what goes behind. I’m pretty sure that for them, seeing your happy faces is what drives the spirit to keep working.
