It doesn’t take a lot for people to get angry with Jeff Bezos. From disgruntled Amazon employees who are working in some quite bad conditions to the general public regarding his wealth and tax deductions to those in the economy concerned over the monopoly Amazon is creating in the market, there is no dearth of reasons.
In recent news, several thousand Dutch locals are showing their anger against the Amazon founder and his superyacht. To the point where they are organising an ‘egg protest’ against his superyacht and what it is leading to.
As per reports residents of Rotterdam, a Dutch port city, are planning to throw eggs at Bezos’ superyacht because of how it might lead to their iconic Koningshaven Bridge to get dismantled if only temporarily.
Dutch Locals Throwing Eggs At Jeff Bezos’ Superyacht
Pablo Strörmann, a Rotterdam local has already created a Facebook event called ‘Throwing eggs at superyacht Jeff Bezos’ that is scheduled to be held on 1st June 2022. The event’s description states that “Calling all Rotterdammers, take a box of rotten eggs with you and let’s throw them en masse at Jeff’s superyacht when it sails through the Hef in Rotterdam.”
As of yet, around 4,000 people have marked themselves to be attending the event while an impressive 14,000 people have selected the option of ‘interested’.
The reason for this is the temporary dismantling of the iconic Koningshaven Bridge in order to let Bezos’ superyacht to pass. The city had reportedly decided to do this on February 2nd 2022 and the construction company for the superyacht had looked to the local council in order to get the bridge’s central section to be removed so that the superyacht could pass through.

There are some who are in support of the yacht being constructed in the area itself, citing economic and employment benefits it would bring.
Marcel Walravens the local authority project leader stated that “If you carry out a big job somewhere, you want all your tools in that place. Otherwise, you have to go back and forth constantly. In addition, this is such a large project that there are hardly any location where this work can be finished.”
However, locals in the area are not happy with this decision at all considering the history of the bridge. The Koningshaven Bridge was constructed in 1878 but was bombed in 1940 by the Nazis during World War II post which it was again rebuilt. Bezos’ yacht, which is said to cost around 430 million euros is much bigger in size when compared to the bridge.
The Facebook event also states that “Rotterdam was built from the rubble by the people of Rotterdam, and we don’t just take that apart for the phallic symbol of a megalomaniac billionaire. Not without a fight!”
Apparently as per Dutch broadcaster Rijnmond after the almost 100-year-old bridge’s renovation in 2017, it was stated that the bridge would never be taken apart again.
The yacht is reportedly around 417 foot tall while the bridge only has a clearance area of around 131-foot under it.
