458

We millennials are married to our work. Even at home, we start checking company e-mails or attending work-related phone calls. College students juggle attending classes, completing regular assignments, reading and understanding the essential course books, and at the same time taking care of themselves and having a vivid social life.

In the pursuit of perfection, we over-work ourselves and end up being stressed and anxious individuals. In some cases, it might result in burnout and a major depressive episode. Thus, ensuring a work-life balance is of dire importance.

This proves how true the adage ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ is.

A work-life balance is a state of equilibrium that allows us to focus on our personal lives as well as raise our productivity at work.

In other words, maintaining a work-life balance is an important life skill that deals with drawing a flexible work schedule which helps you meet your academic or job commitments and also leaves you with enough time and energy to care for your body and mind. It helps you to develop a meaningful and harmonious relationship with your kith and kin.

Through this video, it is clear that doing work that you love will raise your productivity. Over-burdening yourself with work is harmful.

Limiting your work hours and cultivating a hobby like reading novels, painting, singing or participating in a sports activity can help you manage work stress efficiently.

Try to forget about your worklist while watching television, reading novels or walking with your friends in the park. Enjoy your free time wholeheartedly.

To strike a balance between your personal, scholastic or professional life, the first and foremost step is to recognise that work-life balance is a relative concept. Sometimes, you need to work more to complete a major company project on an urgent basis or study long hours for upcoming semester exams.

On the flip side, it is okay to leave your work early for a social event like your parent’s marriage anniversary or best friend’s birthday. If necessary, you can also take a vacation to unplug from your monotonous routine for necessary revitalisation.

Also, acknowledge that what work-life balance means is different for different people. We all are unique individuals with distinct and disparate needs, desires, ambitions, perspectives, and beliefs.

Hence, you must not compare your work schedule with that of others and plan time accordingly. Time management is the key to success, and you must do so keeping your temperament and personality in mind.
